Nah, he wants me to keep fixing it up. Switched back and got his Prius from me. I imagine I'll have one or the other here most of the time. He has two 80's yota's jamming his driveway up.

One of my buddies had the mazda. pretty much identical to the ranger edge. Ford was making Rangers long before that strange stepchild shit happened, and they continue putting out newer rangers to this day. The Mazda/Rangers only lasted a generation and Mazda fizzled out. What's that tell ya? Mazda isn't capable of runnin with the big dogs.
Did you know that the first 'Rangers' were what would become the F250? Full size 1 ton's with switchable dual gas tanks.

84 single cab long bed pickups. Both are automatic with AC. He has a dark red one he is the second owner of, but it was hit in a parking lot so it looks like shit. Still runs. The other is Taliban tan and in perfect condition. One owner with low miles, dash is perfect in it. Has a nice matching camper shell. He bought it for the camper and parts and then decided it was too nice to use. Engine in it had been overheated, have it stored here in CS.

The hubby of my wife’s bestie has one of those Rangers. Threw me for a loop when I saw the badge. I owned an ‘80’s 250 Custom MT myself, with the somewhat wimpy I6 as my first adult vehicle. They were not great on fuel but overall fairly capable. I don’t really miss it though :)

Nice! I grew up with these trucks and learned to drive in them. Dad owned a furniture store and had an open 82 f250 diesel stick shift, and an 82 f150 straight six stick shift. Grandpa had a diesel f250 automatic. Straight six was the best engine by far. We kept the straight six truck well into 2010 or so. I used to go mud bogging in it in high school, buried it to the frame multiple times. Employees beat on it delivering furniture. Pulled my college girlfriends horse trailer with it to rodeos. Thing got good gas mileage too. Had milkshake oil for the last 10 years of ownership and we continued to beat on it. Truck is still being driven around back home by a painter.

We’re advertising for TM while supporting a member that experienced a tragic loss. I mean, most are doing the second on purpose, the first is a significant but hopefully unplanned benefit to a forum vendor who is a talented and popular guy. And as we are, kinda, all TM (Toyota fan boys/girls) and having a good time, it’s potentially a win-win. Assuming the intended recipient is ok with it.

Pro-tip...if you are not ready to buy, when you are, go to the BF sales page and find out what the discount was and contact the vendor and tell them you will purchase if you can get the BF sale price. I have good luck about 50+% of the time with this strategy. Obviously this strategy applies to all sorts of things, not just Tundra goodies. :)

@empty_lord any help on these? Looks like I maybe have 3 problems? Airbag, cruise and ABS? I visually checked sensors and they seem attached. Perhaps the integration relay swap did not go properly and some of the connections are not good? Seems like maybe airbag system is entirely without power since it can't connect but maybe TS needs something else to talk to an '02? I dunno, not sure what my next step is here other than maybe unplug the entire set of integration relay connectors and re-plug them all and see?

Interesting how the 1st cluster is all centered around stuff integrated to the steering column/wheel eh? Like, I wonder if it's a clock spring issue?

I dunno if the speed sensor circuits may somehow hook into cruise by way of the clock spring circuit, so not sure it explains the latter.

VSC / Speed could potentially be trouble from the lift, I did have a trac problem on a fairly recent drive which went away on the cluster with a restart. Clock spring could explain cruise and airbag trouble, though cruise does seem to work fine for some reason.

Cruise relies on WSS. So there's that link. If there truly is a break in the circuit in the WSS (but on both sides at once? the odds are staggering...) that would explain the cruise issue.

Problem is, I see two potential threads here. I'm trying to wrap my head around whether SRS needs WSS input or not. If so, WSS is the common thread. If not, you have two common threads: WSS is one, clock spring another. It's pretty unusual two have two unrelated problems at once, so I'm hunting the common thread.

This is complete conjecture on my part, but it makes sense the SRS would use WSS as well in order to prevent an inadvertent airbag deployment when it's unnecessary. It's logical that for the airbag to deploy it would want a trigger from the SRS at the front of the vehicle from the impact AND a trigger from the WSS indicating an MASSIVE instant reduction in wheel speed.

Read the part under "Airbag Deployment" here...

That was my thought too, you wouldn't want it to go off in a low-speed bump or jostle, like loading onto a flatbed towtruck. But I haven't seen where the WSS and SRS cross in any of the EWD. Granted, I suck at reading the stupid EWD, and it could be that the intersecting common point of the circuit is the ECU....

EDIT: But that would still leave the core issue of "what could possibly impact both of the rear WSS and/or their circuit?!"

Rear lift? Jason didn't exactly list out the things he did and the taillights were disconnected when I picked up the truck (granted he had to lift the bed). He also did rear drum brakes. It could easily be a simple connector not seated well, but I'd rather not wiggle around on grass or my super steep driveway figuring it out so I think I'll wait for an opportunity to take it into the garage.

That's a sensitive subject right now, "playing with trucks" has bad optics it seems.

Oh and there's a (I think) 2nd gen one in the queue also, but it doesn't look as cool, nor in as good of condition: https://shopgoodwill.com/item/156362506

It's signed though. Maybe by the person who drove it. Who knows.

I mean, you could ask if he dicked around with the wheel speed sensor wiring? Or trace the wiring to see if anything changed, or if he disco'd the sensors somehow? Or maybe if he removed for any reason, he didn't re-seat properly? I don't know the WSS differences from your earlier gen and my later gen. Hell, I haven't even touched my own, ngl.

He's overloaded so asking him probably won't help much. I'll have to diagnose/troubleshoot on my own a bit which is fine. Or take it to Toyota but I think I want to confirm my integration relay isn't the trouble somehow. And if it's going there to get "fixed" then I'm tempted to get the new wheel and airbag in first so they are on the hook to get that working too :)

I don't even really mind spending money on this truck for some reason, it's just so awesome and even with doing the work I've done, it's still way less expensive than any 2.5 Gen would be.
