This post is a thank-you to a forum member and a PSA for the Cru.
It's probably gonna be a long boring rant, so stop here if you're not in the mood.

My external storage hard drive crashed Saturday.
It started showing up as a 'local' disk and couldn't be read.
Windows told me I needed to format the drive.
It had important documents (tax returns, work, medical stuff, etc.), pics (new and old, real old), and a ton of music (some even ripped from LPs) on it.
Unfortunately, I never backed up all of it, the music, but nothing else.

I made a thread about it on our forum and got some help.
Several members responded with positive input.

One member @BeauDacious even PMed me a program to try, and how to use it (I'm computer stupid), and upon my asking recommended a replacement drive.
I downloaded the free version of About DMDE (DM Disk Editor and Data Recovery Software)
It recognized and read the drive and all its contents.
Unfortunately, the 'free' version had a 4K file limit and wouldn't recover entire folders, only the files in each folder.
I needed something that would copy the entire drive folder directory at once.

So my new solid-state drive arrived yesterday, I paid the $20 for the express version of DMDE and got after it.
I selected every folder I needed and it did it all.
Took about 9 hours, but it saved everything I thought I had lost.
Recovered 61.5K files, losing only 6 files, I'm good with that.
When it crashed I was ready to pay someone to recover the data.
But for $20, a little time, and @BeauDacious help, I got it done myself.

So shout out and thank you to @BeauDacious .
You're a man of honor and this crew is all about men of honor.
We might bust each other's balls on a daily basis and maybe have a disagreement now and then but I feel we have each other's back for the most part.

As to the PSA:
Back your shit up.
I put it off and put it off and it finally bit me in the ass.
Kinda like my cat shields, I put that off for so long and my cats were stolen.

If this happens to you the DMDE program worked great.
So I have a new solid-state storage drive, I'll probably buy another one to back it up.
BTW the new drive is a fraction of the size of my old one and doesn't need 120V to power it.
