I bought the truck like this, but it works. Far from a pro install, but I plan on addressing it at some point. Was feeling good after we BTHO LSU the other night and cranked up some L Wayne on the way home. Honestly a pretty good sounding setup with alpine unit and mid grade door speakers. Real problem is the sub can't travel when the back seats down. Need to get a cage for it.

 

Nice. Downfire>Upfire. Course its kinds of hard to make an enclosure that down fires there and still be able to use the same size sub. Could be done but would require cutting some metal perhaps. Throw a low profile sub grill on there so it has some room to pound and breathe.

Is the underside seat material soft or is it hard rigid plastic like on the DCs? I have a tiny box for under the rear seat of my DC but the sub space it tiny, the subs it'll fit are also tiny, and the sub roll surround would smack against the hard plastic of the underside of the seat on my DC. I gave up and eventually just have a truck wedge box wedged between the rear seat and the back of the center console.

 

Thinking about getting one of these for Crackie. I also thought about pulling the one from the V6, and swapping it over, but damn pulling the headliner again. Was it @FrenchToasty that had one of these?

 

Yeah I have one, it’s a cheaper option if your going to run more than 3 or 4 accessories

 

Well, do you like it? Any issues with it? Was it troublesome running the controller wires into the cab? Got pics of where you mounted it?

 

I have it in the sunglass holder area.
it was all pretty easy to install, it does have 3/8 inch or so connector that will need to be snaked into wherever you mount it.
So far it’s worked great, I’ve only got one slot left available; they do have other models with bluetoof action if your into that

 

I've got one too. One thing I do not like about the version I have is you cannot turn off the backlight. I had to run an additional switch just to the Auxbeam just so I could turn the backlight off when the truck is parked at night. I didn't connect my Auxbeam to my ignition because I want certain things to have power without ignition.

Controller wires are easy to run through the cab, the typical firewall grommet on the drivers' side.

Not a good solution for a lot of people, but I drilled into the lower part of the dash and added a Ram ball on the dash and another ram ball to the back of the panel. I like this spot and doesn't really obstruct anything.

What's a sunglass holder? Do you mean the taco holder?

 

It’s always sunny here, so nothing but my face needs to be holding my shades.

 

5100 rears are on sale for $180 a set at suspensionlifts.com right now (Usually $200). Whole lift kit sets might be as well. Finally pulled the trigger on the rears. Should have done it a while ago.

Yup, just paid ~$200 for mine. Hope they ship yours in better shape than ones they shipped to me a few months ago. Whoever does their warehouse fulfillment blows.

 

Hell yeah! This is the kinda feedback I was after! Good spots for both of those switch panel locations IMO.

 

Uh, I believe we've established that the tacos go there. Goh. Get with the program dude. LOL

 

My fronts came from them as well and they were perfect so I guess we'll see.

 

I put my controller in the lower dash area, left of the steering wheel. Fab’d a backplate from some plastic type stuff that I was able to heat and bend into shape. Drilled through that, attached through the dash panel, then put a narrow metal plate behind the dash, to spread the stress so it doesn’t rip the dash material when I jump the truck. If you decide you’re interested in see this option, lmk and I’ll snap pics in the day time.

I keep wanting to replace my Kenwood stereo with a capacitive screen Kenwood unit with the HD screen knowing damn well that there is nothing wrong with my current unit in the DC which I hardly ever drive anyway. Stupid Black Friday, Cyber Monday, Tech Tuesday whatever Wednesday sales emails.

 

Do they make a model with 2 separate power inputs for ignition and 12v constant? That would solve problems

 

Can you tie the lighting into your dash illumination circuit to dim when your lights are on?

 

That amp is gonna die if you run it too much with the seat down.

It's soft on the under side. Not much give, but enough to be squishy.

 

I used a random 2 x2 across the top of my subs so that someone can sit in the rear passenger seat and not cause the seat bottom to flex into the subs. Simple, cheap, and and works.

 

Nope, there's no wires that come out of the switch to control the dimness. There is a sensor built into the switch panel that adjusts the brightness.

Yeah, I agree. I believe they used to have a model where the brightness could be manually adjusted.

I'm content with the power cutoff switch I added and will leave it be though. I pretty much only cut power to it if I park in public at night so the cab isn't lit up.

 

Planning on getting a new tent of pain tomorrow. Saw that harbor freight has a slightly bigger one now. 12×20 instead of the 10×17 that I had.

10×17 is $250.
12×20 is $399.

Decisions...

 

More pain=more pleasure

 

At least from drinking cold cheap beer if nothing else.
