Went out to start my 02 this morning, (27 degrees). Would not turn over. It has sort of done this before where you turn the key and it hesitates for about a second or two then cranks over and starts right up. But today it wasn’t having it even after holding the key for 10 seconds. So I went and got my battery charger and ran the 55A engine start option. Truck started right up. Also popped the check engine light, P0335 and P0340, (cam and crank position sensor, respectively). Drove 25min 20miles to work no problems running fine. Any ideas?

Edit: When I got to work I unhooked the negative battery cable. Went out and hooked it back up at lunch, started with about 1/4 second hesitation and the codes went away.

No brainer: Go to any chain auto parts store. Ask them to test your battery. Chances are it's dying.

If not, come back. Definitely have other thoughts. Start with the easiest and free diagnostic first, given the 'cold af weather' element here, it screams bad battery.

I second the battery. Pretty simple fix.

I only know this because a similar thing happened to me the other day. I got in my truck, turned the key, and it went "click" :(

I had just been reading all the starter related threads here, and immediately jumped to the worse case scenario. I started checking relays, fuses, and following all the diagnostic threads. Then I came upon the divine wisdom from @Shifty ...."it's almost never the starter!".

I tightened a lose negative terminal, clipped on my jump pack and it started right up. Took a ride to batteryland and found that that I had 3 years (and two days) on my 3 year battery. Marginal battery combined with a poor connection equals failure. Now I have a new 5 year battery, and new cable ends.

Turns out the problem was just that I had too much money! But the battery guy assured me I'd come to the right place, and relieved me of ~ $170.
