Hello Gents. I’m trying to decide on a dash camera but frankly don’t trust the internet and the best of 22 reviews. To many people getting paid for reviews based upon reviews instead of actual usage.

what do you all use to get clear images and great performance.

    thank you in advance.

In my side Thinkware U1000 in dual channel configuration. Pricey but ADAS and speedtrap functionalities are worth every cent. Had the solar setup on a Skoda Superb for a few years so It have some experience with it.

BTW do not use a standard micro sd card but an industrial one as it is rated for more read/write cycles as well as the extreme temperatures found behind z windshield

If you want to buy one and have it last forever. BlackVue is worth a look. I’ve had Rove, Vantrue, and Rexing. All crap out in less than a year.

I also have thinkware F 200 in both my tundra as well as 4Runner
    I would second the recommendation.

    With one caveat:

The only thing I had to compare it to was some El cheapo dash cam that I don’t even remember the brand. Did not last long enough for me to care about it.

So I do not have extensive experience with other brands.

One thing I can say about it is that the interface with your cell phone app is intuitive and easy to use. Cannot speak for its longevity as I’ve only had both of them for seven months.

I had an opposite experience. Two Blackvue cameras on two different vehicles, both crapped out and the CS was abysmal. It was a few years ago but soured me on them.

Most recently i had been using a Z-Edge which was fine but I sold it with the truck, so am looking for a new set up.

I like the Vantop brand if you can find it. Seems they are building under a different name. Many of them are very similar to the others.

Another vote for Garmin. I have one in 2 of our vehicles and it's the only dashcam to survive Texoma summers I've purchased.

I've also soured on Blackvue. The camera in my daughter's car failed and customer service wasn't abysmal, it was non-existant. The shop where I had it installed could only install a new set for (if I recall correctly) $450. After a little research I found that every model uses a different cord for power, and the cord from the front to rear cameras varies wildly. Her old camera was a 590W and I found a 590X to replace it. The power cord is visibly the same, but about a millimeter smaller on the X than on the W. The only reason for that type of change is to prevent an easy upgrade. In the future, I won't be buying from Blackvue.

    Nothing.... yet.
I second this. I've had my front facing camera for a few months, and finally got around to installing the rear view camera. Had enough link cable to run from the front, hidden in the headliner, down the b-pillar, thru a floor grommet, up into the bed, and up to the back window of my topper. JUST enough length, but its a microusb plug on that end, so adding extra length shouldn't be hard if needed. Quality is good, and the built-in wifi works great.

I just have to get my hardwired setup done right, as it doesn't go into park mode atm (this is totally on me)

Wasn't going to say anything but since that video was recommended, it has some caveats. Since Linus' only had the condition of wanting the best camera for cheap, he didn't take into account the type of sensors that each of them used. Here's another video that I would recommend you watch to get a well-rounded idea of why LTT's video is true but isn't exactly all encompassing:

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SowUTOrhzOg

I highly recommend this guy as he does a lot of dashcam and radar detector reviews and his opinions feel very non-biased.

Some great content here, thank you. I have an older Viofo and a new version in two different vehicles, learned alot with this video. The older model has been running for about 5 years now and every time I go to pull the video had no issues and was similar quality to what is shown here. Like the video gets into I have been surprised how 2K and 4K cameras I have really struggle to deal with moving objects. Example there was a car break in two houses from mine and the person drove by with their window down in front of my house and my 4K home camera couldn't really make a good still shot of the persons face at around 75ft. I would say for dashcams I am not as concerned for hit and run type events as major crashes where who is at fault is being debated, which I think can be done with lower resolution.

Glad the video gave you some insight. He has another follow-up video that shows what police use and what can be suggested to help capture license plates. Spoiler - police utilize both infrared and telephoto secondary cameras all around their vehicle utilizing specialized software to interpret license plate information for them. Interesting use and info for anyone willing to Frankenstein a setup.

My first smart mirror was a Vantop. Well, the battery in it swelled and cracked open the entire right side of the mirror. I cut out the battery and the mirror still worked with USB power. I still ended up buying a new KQQ 12" unit.

I recently purchased the Mercylion A20 integrated dashcam, and I'm blown away by the 4K video quality. It's like having a high-definition camera mounted on my dashboard. The advanced safety features are also a major plus, and the built-in Wi-Fi and GPS are very convenient.
