The TPMS sensors in my steel rims wouldn't work in my new TRD rims. Since I couldn't give a shit about the TPMS, I dug through some old threads and made myself a pressure canister.

In order to keep the canister small, I thought I'd cut the valve stems off the sensors. But in doing so, I managed to break two of the sensors. Busted them wide open. But to my joy, they work anyway! No more idiot light, no more black tape over the idiot light, just sleek, beautiful blackness on the dash!

Ha! That's one way to do it. How many psi did you have to pressure that to?

Max pressure on the tires is 51PSI, so I went that number.

Cool idea. A little concerned about rolling around with what is and looks like a pipebomb under the hood.

"Is"?? LOL ... um, no! But I have to admit, that thought actually did cross my mind for a second. I could just see my mugshot under another one of those famous "Florida Man" news headlines!

But no, it is definitely NOT a bomb, and it could never be defined as such. I could hide it somewhere, but I see no reason to.

Just saying it’s in a pipe. Under pressure. Shaped like a pipe bomb. With what looks like an antenna on top that is transmitting. Maybe write “not a bomb” on the not-a-bomb to make it clear

kidding of course, it’s your truck, who’s gonna be looking at that thing under the hood if you do your own maintenance anyway.

Nice!! And that's a permanent fix. Eventually the batteries in my sensors will die, and I'll have to do the canister thing again. I could kick myself now for not taking a pic of the batteries when I had the chance. They were very large "coin" style. Not gonna find them at any old Lowe's Harbor Depot.

I did this on my little commuter car. I buy wheel and tire takeoffs on local classifieds to keep that thing in good rubber. It's nice not to have to take it to the tire shop.

I dropped my canister in the taillight access panel inside the trunk liner. I wrote TPMS down the side for posterity.

I also drew a dotted line for where it could be safely cut open if I ever want to access them. I used packing to keep the sensors to one side of the bomb, I mean, pipe.

I just drive with the light on since no one can seem to get the tpms sensors to work. Been like this since when I put the new tires on over two years ago. I have gotten used to the light and just check my pressure routinely like I did before all this "fancy" bullshit.

So after reading the first four and a half pages of that thread, and I never saw any pics that look like my wiring. And I was seeing a couple reports of failures leading to the Toyota service department.

I lack the courage to go any further with the idea. But thank you for the suggestion!

Who all has tried to fix this issue? This does not make sense. I am sure you have taken it back to the people that installed the tires? What do they say? I can not imagine driving around with a new truck with any type of warning light lit up on my dash. I have a Toyota so I can avoid something this annoying and possibly unsafe. I did say possibly. Obviously you seem to check your tire pressure.

It was Discount tire. They broke some sensors changing out the tires a couple of years ago and have not been able to get them work since. All the sensors work according to them but the system does not detect them for some reason. I have tried it several times. The whole procedure is a pain in the ass to get to work and I'm not even sure if their sensors will work with the Toyota system. The only thing I have not done is take it to the dealer and have them do it. Just don't feel like spending money on something like this so I do what I did my whole life and look at the tires and check the pressure if it looks low.

It's not all that difficult to remove the instrument cluster and pry off the LED that lights up that TPMS indicator. Very effective, free and permanent solution.
