it really depends on a range of variables.

 

Do you and your passengers prefer Planet Fitness or McDonalds?

A simplified answer would be to load your truck as if you were going camping and have it weighed. Top the tank off before hand. Subtract that number from the GVWR of your truck. The resulting number will be your maximum tongue weight. Multiply the tongue weight by 10 to get your total trailer weight.

Now if your total trailer weight comes out to 5,000# or more you will need a weight distribution hitch which BTW further reduces your payload by about 75#.
Also note that most travel trailers are built nose heavy and it will take some creative packing to get them at that magical 10% tongue weight.

 

You can go up to 15% tongue weight.

 

Towing capacity is directly proportional to the amount of transmission coolers you have installed.

1 cooler = no effective increase.
2 coolers = .25% increase.
6 coolers = 3% increase.
6 coolers mounted on a rooftop mast = 2000% increase.
