I have a 2022 limited 4x4 with the coil suspension and at 5000 miles I started to notice a little difference in the ride. Now the truck has 6400 miles and we drove 4 hours today and my wife made the comment she felt as though she was going to bounce out the back seat. Before she would only ride in the back with the baby due to the smooth ride. Is anyone else experiencing this?

I am thinking about upgrading the rear shocks to see if that will help or can someone point me in a different direction. I am leaning towards the ICON 2.0 VS IR. but have never ran Icon so any input would be appreciated.

    Do you have Trd package?
I see that you have RC leveling kit installed? Could the issue be aftermarket leveling kit?

No I don’t have the TRD Package. I had the leveling kit and 35” tire put on at 300 miles so I would not think it would be the leveling kit. I can push on the rear bumper and make the truck go down with ease. This makes me think the shocks are gone in the rear but I just can’t see that with only 6400 miles.

Before going for a full suspension change I’d be looking at wheel balancing especially with you quickly going to 35s and a levelling kit.

unless, of course, this is just a good excuse for new shocks and maybe a lift.

I would suggest to take it to the dealership and have them figure it out. But in your case they'll probably blame it on the big tires and leveling kit.

Just curious, have you considered getting the Trd lift kit? That preserves the warranty?

My truck will also have regular shocks, no Trd, no avs, so I'm planning on what to do with it...

All Toyota factory black shocks are garbage, from factory they are already under dampening, and they are known to leak before warranty.

How was the ride before you switched to the 35's, and leveling kit?

Could be due to tire wear. Not sure what type of tires you have but maybe you have worn through the "softer" parts of the tread lugs? Might be able to play with tire pressures to see if that helps any. Would be a cheap easy fix if it does help.

The ride before and after did not seem to change. Tires and leveling kit got put on at 300 miles. Starting to notice a difference at 5000 and only getting worse now.

Nope rode like a dream after installing. That was over 5500 mile ago. Now it’s bouncing in the back.

I was told by my dealership a leveling kit will not void warranty. I bought the extra 100,000 mile warranty and that was the first question I asked before buying it.

I went to 35’s and a leveling kit at 300 miles. Now over 6000 miles later I have a problem. I would not think it would take that long for a problem to be linked to the tires or leveling kit. I would think that would happen in the first thousand miles or so. The truck was smooth after install. Almost like a factory ride.

Before you go with icon, read up on digressive vs progressive shocks. Icon will most likely get rid of the bounce, but won’t necessarily be a smoother ride.

Did you recently take it anywhere that someone could have filled your tire pressure higher than it was after the install? I run Cooper STT Pros and keep them significantly lower than top pressure. When they have occasionally been inflated more (after tire rotation), the ride is stiff and uncomfortable.

What tire pressure do you run? I just checked and they are at 40-PSI.

40psi cold? Seems high to me. Check the max psi vs load and calculate your weight and go from there. I went from 35psi cold to 32psi cold and it was significant in small bump harshness.

I put TRD rear shocks on my standard SR5 and the ride improved significantly. The damping is much more substantial and makes a huge difference.

I was looking at adding ICON 2.0 and the REAR FOAM BUMP STOP KIT from ICON to the rear. They are saying it will improve the ride better than new.

I knew you’d ask  but I’m running 33’s not 35’s. Anyway, I typically run 38psi on highway, so if you’re for sure at 40psi, that’s probably not the problem. Also, I’ve got more than 5k miles on mine, much of it off-road, so I don’t guess tire wear is your problem either.

Edit: our trucks are not equivalent either; the one I’m running STT Pro’s on is a 1st gen long travel with King Shocks… so the only thing we have in common is tires.

I have 35’s on my 2018 tundra and don’t have this problem with it but I have bilstein shocks on it. So I am thinking if I upgrade the shocks and replace the bump stops it will help. Hopefully!

Did the leveling kit lift the back also? If so then I would say that the OEM shocks are shot since they are not rated for lift.

I don’t think the regular black shocks you usually see on these trucks from the factory are very good. I wonder if one of them is bad already. Could be worth having the dealer take a look at it and they could replace them if so. If you want to upgrade them to something better anyway, I guess now would be the time! Anyway, Here is a meme that nobody asked for because you might as well laugh about it.
