2022 Tonneau covers

Maybe I missed it but can someone please post a pic of the Toyota tri-fold (or other brand if works similar) in the fully open position? Does it lean against the back of the cab?

For the drain tubes being the same size are you referring to the OEM or the BakFlip or both?

 

OEM install showed to use drain tubes that are the same size as the pre drilled holes.
I'm still thinking I'll add a y-splitter and have each of the supplied tubes split to make use of all 4 pre drilled holes.

 

Thx. I think the BakFlip drain tubes are larger and I don't want to drill the bed so maybe I'll go with the OEM or call Realtruck and see if the OEM size tubes are available.

 

Great info, thanks. I was toying with getting some after-market weatherstripping but now I’m sold as a must.

 

….or, go to hardware store and buy smaller tubing and a reducer coupling to go from the BakFlip tubing to the new piece of tubing. 5 minutes, no drilling, better cover than the OEM from what I’ve heard/read.

 

1. The quick release is no longer, there is a bolt/nut in each front corner so not nearly as quick as previous versions. Only take a minute vs 10 seconds.

2. Yes, the OEM plastic tie down points are still usable, when removing them from the rail, you have to almost complete unscrew them before turning them at an angle to remove.

3. The Elevate TS rails are like the rails that come with the cover but extend over the top of the box, the tie down points are still usable just like with the rails that come with the cover.

 

I am a truck newbie, and relatively inept mechanically - but having fun learning. I bought a BAK revolver but they sent me the wrong hardware kit. A few phone calls and 3 weeks later the right kit arrives. The install seems smooth, until I find out cover is about 3/8” too narrow. Now they are sending me shims. Is nothing ever simple?

I did drill the holes larger to fit the tubes but only because I couldn’t be bothered trying to cram them in the original bed holes. The size difference was about 1/8” and once done you would never notice it if you removed the tubes later on.

 

Short answer -no, not in my life.

My bad. I’ll take some in the am. I took pictures today bc I think my weathertech rails are missing a tab on each side that help the middle section lock down

 

Where have you read that BakFlip is better than OEM? The reviews I've seen for each on YouTube make them look identical.

 

Let me rephrase. It is my opinion, trough what I've both read, heard, and witnessed in person (granted only on one unit, but still...), that the OEM has more leaking issues off the bat.

Maybe they are identical, maybe the OEM's report more leaks due to install rather than hardware, maybe what I saw was isolated incidents.

I just know that if I do searches for both with reports of leaking, I see less negative reports from the BakFlip.

There are even posts on this forum, sharing/reporting the same opinion. Next time, however, I'll be clearer that my post is an educated opinion, and not peer reviewed, bibliographical data.

You can still use slide cleats but only to each clamp for the tonneau rail

 

Might've not looked hard enough but I don't think I've seen a 6.5 ft quad-fold hard cover in this thread. Does anyone have quality recommendations?

 

My dealer wants 1800 for the regular bed OEM Cover. Is that basically what they have been going for? Seems a little high to me.

 

you could buy a retrax for that. OEM cover is a MX4 Blackflip essentially, Realtruck sells them for about half that if you contact @SantanaRealtruck

If your dealership is like the ones around me yes, that's a little high but normal. It's not good, but normal. I think it's about $1000 + tax then they charge almost $300 to install.....just crazy. My dealership mandates they install it as part of the rip-off scheme.

 

My bad. I think in my mind I saw Santana and I automatically gravitated towards Carlos Santana and made an assumption. I made the correction. Thanks for the heads up. I went with the Bakflip MX4. My dealer wanted 1800 just for the cover. They wanted 2400 for the cover + installation. That just seemed ridiculously high to me.

 

$2400 is beyond comical!!! Who would pay that? That's almost $1000 more than I paid for my Retrax Pro, crazy. And I did the same with Santana, except I was corrected on the phone by one of her colleagues about the 4th time I said "him" LOL.

Looking to order a tonnaeu cover soon and deciding between the MX4 Backflip and Extang Xceed. I like the look of Xceed and has good reviews from the site, but not much from Tundra owners. I've only seen one post on the Xceed on this thread, can anyone else comment? Likes/dislikes?
