3rd Gen Suspension Lift - MEGA THREAD

The easiest way to think about it is like this:

• Shocks control "bounce" - They don't carry any weight in of themselves
• Springs carry the weight and thus allow for more lift

The only way to add lift to OE springs is by preloading (I.E. "squeezing them" more) the factory springs more than they are when they roll off the assembly line. You can only "squeeze" them so much and thus it limits the amount of lift you can out of them. Preloading too much can also reduce travel (up & down).

Aftermarket springs add ride height because, most of the time, they have a higher spring rate. You can more height and travel from them.

It all depends on your uses I think

Eibach will put out something 1-2 levels better than the current OEM offering (minus the Pro’s Fox)…and if they follow what they did on the 2nd gens then we will also get coil-over options and full level and ride height without spacers at a great price.

So you can mix and match of course but it depends what you want.

 

Awesome feedback, thanks guys! Also, this may explain why the Bilstein 5100's I put on my 19 RAM were set to net 2.5" of lift in the front but I didn't get that? Adding coils would have helped achieve the level I had hoped for?

So, is the consensus to install different rear coils instead of air bags to lift 1/2”-1”? Of course, the only spring available now is the LC springs?

 

They are a lot of options (and a lot more still in the R&D…test fit stage)

I wonder if spacers for the top of the rear shock are necessary when installing a coil spring lift. I know the Wescott preload kit has two sets of small 0.5" spacers for the rear shocks. You can see it describe in this video...

Since you're using a 2.5" Dobinsons coil spring and a 1" Pro Comp spacer on top, did you have to use any spacers for your rear shocks to accommodate or compensate for the 3.5" of additional lift? The shock spacers may not be necessary, but I thought I would ask.

 

I believe not…if you get the right coils (taller coils)

Most of these spacer lifts are re-using the factory coils so no choice as it’s the only way to get more height.

…but a true lift with taller coils will give you that extra height without anything else.

 

I'm getting the Toyota TRD Lift installed Monday! Going out of town for a bit, but should be a nice thing to come home to.

I was quoted $2503.80 for the kit and 9hrs ($1200) install. Still debating on which route to go for suspension.

 

Make sure to ask for all your original parts back.

$2500 for the kit isn’t too bad considering all the parts you’ve getting and the warranty. I will strongly consider this when I get my tundra in.

 

@Dark - Can't wait to see your truck with the TRD kit. I want to get it but I have the rear air leveling.

 

I always request my tear offs, whether it be my truck or my Harley...

 

@Dmon187 @bigjuice I prepaid an amount for the kit and new tires with the purchase of my truck when I bought it because it wasn't released yet. That way, it's considered dealer installed. That means no installation cost. If there is any left, they cut me a check.

Is this for sure unable to go on the rear air leveling trucks. That would suck if true. I was really excited about this lift

 

As long as you don’t have avs it will work, you just can’t use the rear suspension parts in the kit- front will all be the same

 

So my guess is dealers won’t install but I can absolutely add the front components myself or from another shop. What would the back feel like or be like and what might have to happen for this to feel like the lift it’s intended to be?

 

Move your rear air arm up, or buy one of the “lift” versions from someone else.

I would ask around with dealers, I’m sure there is one that will put the front parts on for you

 

Upon ready the document further it looks like the load leveling might only matter if it’s the TRD sport package.

 

That’s how I understand the instructions as well. 2WD TRD sport with the air is no go.

 

Yeah man, it's for sure. Can't got on TRD Pro either because of the fox springs.

 

Right hard to believe that the front components won't fit. You lose AVS. Then you can adjust the rear separately. I'm not sure I care about the AVS anyway.

 

Do you know if they need any other test mules?
