Transmission cooler or not Thread

I agree but it’s not that easy. If the dealer tells you no warranty, what would be your next move? Just because Toyota decided to remove it, which I don’t agree with, doesn’t mean they can’t void your trans warranty if it fails. We all know manufacturers are always looking for an escape to deny warranty work. If I still had my boat I would put one. For me since it’s just daily driving I don’t worry about it.

Aside from what I stated above, there is another thing to keep in mind with dealerships. They make more money charging the customer than they do the manufacturers. When you sense that they are denying the warranty fraudulently, find another dealership or talk to the general manager.

Years ago I was asked to leave a review for a Ford service center. I left a poor review since they tried to rip me off. A week later I received a call from the manager asking why. I explained the entire situation. He even verified what I told him by looking in the service manual. His response was that he would take care of it. I never went back there again.

Dealerships are scammers for the most part. The oil issue I had was I bought the car used. 1 year old Acura TSX with 5500 miles. The dealer I bought it from did a service to it. They over filled it by one quart. It developed a leak in the rear main seal. I can’t remember if this was an issue with the TSX but none the less I took it to another dealer for warranty, it was way closer, about 30 miles closer. They looked at it and saw the oil was high. They proceeded to tell me if I get an oil change with them that they would warranty it, if not no warranty. To it back to the dealer I bought it from and they fixed it. Contrary to what the dealer said, 1 quart doesn’t cause that. I use to run 1 extra quart on my Tarilblazer SS because it was a know issue that on a hard launch the oil went to the back of the pan, pick tube is in the front, and starve the rear bearings. I actually run 5w-30 on my tundra because 0w-20 makes the whole valve train sound like Diesel engine. Can they void my warranty, yes, but the 5.7 hasn’t changed and 5w-30 was the oil the used before. All I was saying was that the Magnson Act isn’t so clear cut. If I towed a lot I would definitely put one. I don’t tow anymore so it’s not a concern to me. I will just change my trans oil and filter sooner and more often. As for your Tow Package, as far as I know, no truck from 19 on has a cooler, period. And as far as I know from all the tundras I have owned, 4 now, they all had a Tow Package and a cooler, 08, 10, 15 and 20(no cooler)

 

Currently my 2008 with 198k miles, I’m thinking about buying the same cooler OEM parts and put it on my 21. Do you guys think it would bolt right up ?

 

If I am not mistaken someone did a post on this. They bought all the OEM parts from a 14+ and added it to their truck that didn’t have any cooler.

 

No. It’s the same thermostat and maybe the lines, but that cooler won’t fit. They changed the style where the grill doesn’t raise with the hood so it won’t fit.

 

This kit uses most of the oem parts, just a different cooler. The cooler was integrated with the ac condenser. That part is almost $1000 and people speculated the cooler was removed because of a freon change so ac condenser needed to be bigger.

Yeah I have seen that one. I have seen some threads similar to that one. I guess I must be mixing them up with the previous gen that had an actual cooler.

 

I would put on my wizard robe and hat, climb upon the service counter and with a mighty roar declare, "I summon all my mana and cast Magnussen-Moss: LEVEL VII!!"

Some guys have lots of miles on their SC’d Tundras… @snivilous is over 270k I believe. Not sure who else…

276k right now, but to be fair it only got the blower on at 214k there's people that have had more miles being supercharged, though mine might be one of the older ones in terms of total miles on the truck plus having a blower.

I have had zero reliability issues from the supercharger.

 

I put one on my 2010 at around 10k miles and traded it in at about 95k. I drove it hard and the only SC related issue was the coupler kept rattling. I replaced it with the supposed upgraded one, but that one rattled too. And my transmission went out at 59k.

 

What happened with the transmission going out at 59k??

 

The CEL was for solonoid d. Toyota just replaced it under warranty and didn’t say why it went out. They did say there were metal shavings in the fluid. I don’t blame the SC. Maybe the way I drove it. I could tell it was going out - hesitating to shift, holding gears - but it still pulled a 3k lb uhaul from MO to TX and didn’t leave me stranded before I got it replaced.

 

I'll jump in on this one...The S/C is transparent when you drive normal. like it isn't there. it's only giving boost when you want it to. heavy pedal.

now, when you do stomp it...just make sure you have a VERY reliable tune. I verified my AFR's during the tuning phase. all is well.

more intouch folks will tell you to put in an AFR gauge. I watch mine via the scangauge 3. and am in the process of putting in a innovate AFR/Boost gauge

just keep it under ~600hp @ crank.

My installer has an older Tundra (09?) with ~300k miles. nearly all with the Magnuson.

Life is short. get a S/C.

 

My guess is when you add a sc you like to hit the gas pretty hard and that extra toque on the tranny doesnt play well maybe?

 

They only had three transmission coolers instead of the recommended six.

Even if you don't tow the fluid temps can get really high compared to the trucks built with a cooler. The OEM thermostat opens around 180° for trucks with a cooler. Before I added a cooler to my 2019 it would be normal to see temps if 220+ with just normal driving. Now i stay around 185°. Its no secret that the higher the fluid temps the faster it degrades.

 

I was on the fence about the cooler, even when towing, until I took a trip, unloaded (not towing) across the state and hit 230 in D on a 75 degree day at about 75 mph. Made me concerned that I could never drag my trailer over to that part of the state, which I would like to do, without hitting something even higher.

Maybe those temps (230...240...250) won't be detrimental to the transmission. I honestly don't know. But I am just a lot more comfortable now with the cooler and no longer very concerned.
