Alarm "chirp" volume adjustment

I feel like the "chirp" is super loud on my Tundra. You can hear it clearly up and down the block.

I know that on a 3rd gen 4runner you can adjust the volume of the "chirp" when locking or unlocking the doors.

Does anyone know if there's a procedure to adjust the volume of the "chirp" on a 1st gen Tundra? Or maybe a way to just turn it off?

On 1st Gen trucks, that chirp is managed through a piezo that's tucked into the driver's side fender, just down from the master cylinder. Look here.

You could likely experiment with swapping out for a different piezo, unplugging it totally for no chirp, wrap it up with Tesa tape to attenuate it, or get ugly and jam something into it to attempt muting it.

Later trucks had the RS3200 system. I used those instructions to

auto-lock the doors when you shift into gear, because I have kids and kids do stupid shit.

 

If it is possible the directions are in the user manual. If it recall there was something about holding the remote buttons longer with ignition on to turn on or off the beep.

Look in the manual or try this- iginition on, hold both remote buttons for 2-3 seconds. Then press bottom (light) button once and turn ignition to lock.

 

I love quoting myself. What would be really cool is to swap the piezo out for something that, like, Nokia ringtone.

SWITCHING BEEP SOUND ON AND OFF
You can switch the beep on and off. (The
beep is on initially and after battery re-
placement.)
To switch the beep on and off:
With the driver’s door opened—
1. Insert the ignition key and remove it.
2. Within 5 seconds, insert the ignition
key again and turn it to the “ON” posi-
tion.
3. After 10 seconds, push the same
“LOCK”, “UNLOCK” or “PANIC” switch
twice within 10 seconds.
Two beep sounds inform you that the
program has been switched on or off.
If this procedure is not followed exactly,
the beep will not operate as expected.

 

I just got a piece of masking tape and covered half the hole of the piezo. I thought the factory noise was too loud for my apartment complex, and with half of the hole covered, the beep is quiet enough not to be a nuisance while still being heard. Cheap, easy fix. You can mess around with how much of the hole is covered by tape to adjust the volume to your preference.
