    Hi everyone,

I've got 260,000 on my 06 Tundra and have so much rust on my frame that I have been told my left front wheel is about to fall off. I have about 24 inches of rot on my left side rail from front wheel assembly and back. My engine compartment frame has holes about 2-3" wide. I have been rejected for a new frame twice, as my truck doesn't fit their criteria according to Toyota. Anyone have any suggestions? I have notified the NHSTB but don't expect much. The truck runs great and I don't want to dump her.

    Welcome!

What was given as a reason that your truck didn’t meet requirements?

Unless you get a new frame the only other option I know of would be to find a donor truck in a junkyard or something and weld the front of that frame on yours:welder:

Here’s one photo It’s my left side rail. I’m going to my mechanic on Monday so I’ll get more especially the wheel area

Toyota only said that I did not meet their criteria for frame recall—-all the other first generation years but 2006.

There was a condition report stating there was no surface rust and no frame damage. The rust is so bad the rear crossmember that holds the spare tire is gone. It should have been totaled out by Toyota when it had routine maintenance done in 2021. Toyota deemed the truck not safe to drive, must tow. There was frame rot and major frame damage noted.

No you don't. It varies wildly from state to state, and depends on the origin state, selling a vehicle with unsafe structure is illegal in many states.

You may also be able to dispute through the auction. One other member has been through this, I wonder if you bought from the same seller? See here and pay close attention to the seller's name, and the advice others start giving, it gets great in later pages of the thread: https://www.tundras.com/threads/i-got-screwed.105021/

Then you won the auction based on inaccurate data. Thus you got legally bilked. "Not as described" carries weight in a court of law.

That qualifies as frame damage. The shock blowing through the frame qualifies as frame damage.

If this was identified by Toyota prior to the date of the auction, then the auction listing is pretty damned by the Toyota report.

GET A LAWYER. Clearly, this is becoming a common thing and if one of you folks don't stand up, it'll keep happening.

BTW @Kevinward21 it bears mentioning, if you did buy from the same auction seller as @wyoboypt then you guys may want to team up and class-action this MF'er.

My main issue I am finding is that because I didn’t notify an employee at the lot when I picked it up, then I still accepted the truck. I’m not very good with realizing how bad of conditions a vehicle is in. I didn’t inspect the truck when I picked it up because I had already paid for it. I should have read terms of agreement. I will be sure to message @wyoboypt and continue to try and get some compensation.

May be worth talking to a lawyer...

Having rear shocks are over-rated anyway. I still have my originals and they haven’t fallen out yet.

Good luck trying to recover the money from your purchase if you do decide to fight it.

You should check the lemon laws in the state you received the truck. I know in my state if the vehicle doesn’t pass inspection you have the right to your money back if it’s within 7 days.

I'm sorry to say your rear diff looks close to leaking from rust. Keep an eye on that.
