Door/window trim chrome delete

I got the eBay handle overlays for $50 and they are a great option for chrome delete. I got the OEM tailgate handle and window mouldings too but haven’t tried the trim yet.

 

Picked up all the trim pieces and changed them out for the gloss black, I found part # in the parts thread. The horizontal pieces are $245 each and the verticals are $100 each Canadian, I called the dealer and got them in one week. I followed the instructions posted in this thread and it’s not a hard job at all took me an hour. I started with the front doors and broke the single clip on both trying to unclip it, but did not break the clip on the rear doors. There’s no need not to break the clip if you’re not going to using the chrome again, to save time and effort on being gentle just push down with enough force to break the clip. Each clip is about an inch in each side from centre of truck. The front doors are very easy to pull off and pop the new ones on, scraping off the tape on the vertical pieces is the hardest part of the job. I put the vertical pieces on first and hinged the horizontal piece into its clip end, there was a hair gap between them and I just opened the front door and pushed them together. I had the weather stripping gap before so nothing chances there. I couldn’t find a wrap option for a cheaper price but I like that this is a permanent OEM fix compared to wrapping or plasti dip. I recommend doing this job for a chrome delete

Looks good. Does the finger touch lock feature still work?

 

Yes it does, that’s all I use is the handle to lock/unlock the truck.

 

So I got the carbon fiber ones from China and not a fan of the look.. ordered black as I shoulda in the beginning.
they do work fine btw with the touch lock but I replaced the tape with actual 3M.

Yes you can get matte black handle covers and window trim. I chose to go gloss because there is so much gloss black on the truck already and the tailgate handle is only in gloss. Can’t go wrong with either one.

Anyone here knows where I can find chrome window trim for my 2022 limited double cab?

 

Where did you get the OEM tailgate handle from? Same eBay merchant?

How has the overlays held up so far? They look good.

Does anyone recommend painting the door handles (black) to chrome delete instead of adhesive overlay or vinyl wrap? My shop doesn't want to do vinyl due to peeling and they're suggesting painting them instead, but it would require disassembling and reassembling all 5 handles so I am concerned given the sensors. Thanks

i got the tailgate handle from Toyota because mine has two holes and the one from eBay only had one, I think it’s a trim thing. The overlays have been great so far, I go through the automatic beater car wash a few times a week and they are still on, can’t beat them for $50

 

Most of the painted ones Ive seen are folks who ordered from Toyota directly, for $350+... $40 overlays or $15 vinyl seems like a better option to my checkbook for the time being haha...

 

Thanks! Is this the correct SKU 76810-0C021 for the black gloss tailgate OEM handle you have? I called my local dealer, and they said there's no color marked on the product description and no picture so he couldn't confirm if it's black gloss.

 

Anybody found color matched door handles from Toyota? I know the SR5's have them color matched. Just not sure where to find them.

they don’t have all the colors unfortunately

disregard. I did not realize their corporate overlords made them shut down the store. Still has part numbers though.

Awesome, thanks! That's the one. I ordered the 4 handles in gloss off eBay and will order the OEM tailgate handle now.

 

Does it just clip on or do you need to take the handles off?

 

It’s double sided tape, press on overlays just like the blackout emblems Toyota sells. I ended up sanding and painting the chrome around the key hole because there’s just too much chrome still visible through that hole and I didn’t like the look and I used the same paint on my front Toyota emblem.

 

Curious on the horizontal pieces.... once the first clip is out, or broken, how do you release the rest? Pull straight out? Lift from the bottom? I dont want to break all of the clips. I am wrapping mine
