I really wasn't expecting much from it, but was won over after a 45 minute test drive.
Have one on order with an expected delivery next year. The acceleration is ridiculous
reaching 60 in a little over 3 seconds. The truck has an adjustable height of 6 inches so no
lift kit would ever be needed. It is only 12 inches shorter than the Tundra. Soon as you let off the accelerator, the motors slows itself down to a complete stop. There is no coasting around a corner, you need to keep some pressure on the accelerator. It was weird at first but got used to it after a few minutes. There are no keys. You get a credit card size fob, a lanyard, a bracelet, or can use your phone without any of the others. Will it replace the Tundra, only time will tell. If you get a chance to drive one, go for it. It really is incredible.

The more and more I see these the more I want one. Waiting to see how F150 lightning takes off mainstream.

What price are you going to pay? I was looking at them the over day, sold out for over a year.

Not a fan of a yellow color, but this one looks really good on the truck, especially with yellow brake calipers. Enjoy your future truck OP

Everyone talks shit about EV until they get to drive in one. It’s completely different and absolutely addicting once you’re in.

I have a friend that knows some folks at the Rivian plant and he's driven several, and has one of their SUV's on order. (Some friend, never swung by to pick me up when he had one to check it out, eh?) He also says they are awesome, but wants a bit more interior space, so went with the SUV.

When I was talking to him, his ONLY concern is the long term viability of Rivian as a whole with the way they are spending money and not putting out a lot of product yet. I can understand that, along with some of the mainstream efforts (Ford, GM) coming online now too.

Long story short: It's probably not bad that you have to wait a year for the order, as the financial situation of Rivian should hopefully become a bit clearer by then.

Of all the EVs out there - I do like these best.

Saw my first last week - kinda surprised to see one in Central NC.

I would actually own one of the cost were 65k or less - but can’t see paying more than that.

Wife is bugging me about a Mach E - we looked at one this weekend - it was nice, but I prefer the Rivian.

I’m thinking more people would own one (myself included) if they had better range and charging availability for those that tow. For the person that wants a 4 tons of fun and the occasional tow/HD run…can’t be beat.

I was worried about the charging areas also. I asked the woman that took us about locations. She pulled it up on the screen and I was shocked how many there were around. Not sure if I would want to take a long road trip in one due to the charge time, but for some day trips it would be fun.

There's actually a lot of them around southern Utah, I've seen probably 3-4x as many rivians as the new tundras. I think they're the coolest out of all the electrics out right now, but since electrics still can't handle towing (TFL got less than 100 miles towing an unloaded travel trailer on flat ground with their F150 lightning) so I'll hold off for a bit. Otherwise I think they're very cool!

I wouldn’t worry about an empty EV. They have great range (314 miles).

Now imagine you were towing a 16’ tandem axle trailer with a car on it. Most charging stations cannot accommodate a trailer. You would have to disconnect from trailer, go to charger for a quick refill. Then go back to your trailer, hook back up and travel on to the next charging station …whatever that range is (140 miles is average for 7000 lbs).

People buy trucks to work (mostly). The R1 would not work for my current use.
Let’s take this past Friday for example. This is a rather light load of 9k lbs. The trailer still weighs more than the load.

    9E35A74C-85CF-4EB6-8264-0FFF304DBCEE.jpg

I was helping an old military buddy move and the distance for the day was 240 miles. I sent him the fuel receipt.

    2FD6B655-5E28-48AF-BCF9-06779D80C0EF.jpg

Had I been using the R1 we would have needed to unhook twice and charge most likely at 9k lbs. This just doesn’t work for my use.

Now buying a Tesla or similar for a commuter/DD…hell yeah. That works perfectly for my needs.

That’s my point. Most people would be totally fine with their use.

I would be ok for probably 80 percent of the time. The other 20 towing a boat or camper would suck.

the Rivian intrigued me but I just can’t get over that front end.

It’ll be interesting to see how the cybertruck plays out. Pepsi has already committed to the first four semis released

Tesla is the only one with the SC network like that. There are tonnsss and you also have non SC ones

Like any vehcile manufacture, random ones have their issues. There are many out there with 150k+ on them. A few I’ve seen with 500k+ with almost zero issues. Tesl to me, is the Toyota of the EV world. Their warranty is fantastic. Hell, here is mine (Model 3, performance)

They look like great cars and I’m sure they are incredible. I was checking out one today in the Costco parking lot and they’re just a little too small for my liking. Maybe I could get used to it, but not at this point. The body gets sucked in quite a bit from the fenders so I don’t feel the total width is really indicative of what it really is. The bed is really small. I already think the 5.5’ is small, not sure I could go much smaller. All that being said, I’d love to take one for a test drive.

I saw one couple days ago, first time ever out in the wild. Looks like an appliance, especially that front.

That is the truck equivalent of Susan Boyle (Google, if you dare).
It has some great features, I especially like the low bed sides as modern trucks are a pain in the butt if you try reaching over the side to grab something out of the bed. But dayamn.

My brothers best friend just received his last month after a ten month wait. It is an impressive machine. Occasional weekend trip to the dump, daily driver, etc it’s very useable and I would certainly consider one after riding in it and driving it. It feels like a rocket ship off the line.

If you need it for towing, etc I don’t think it would be very practical (as others have stated) due to the decreased mileage. But for 90% of the people this is a pretty impressive alternative…..

What is this obsession with low bed sides? I actually prefer them to be higher, so that stuff doesn't fall out!
