Hey folks, I have a 2022 limited with the rear air suspension (non-AVS). I think it rides like crap. I have taken it back to the dealer a few times who swear the tires are balanced, also adjusted the rear linkage so it doesn’t hit the bump stops over every hole and still I feel a lot of vibrations in the cabin from what seems like fairly smooth roads. Anyone else have this same feeling about the rear air suspension? Tires are right at 34 psi all around.

Ah interesting, I’ve had a couple Rams with oem air bags and didn’t really like how they rode, was hoping Toyota had it figured as was considering for next 22+. My 22 1794 rides like an 80s caddy, really plush with the rear coils.

And this is what bugs me: I have heard so many people comment on how great the ride is when I certainly don’t concur based on how my truck rides. Frustrating.

Have you test driven another truck at the dealer to compare?

I love the air feel. But I do need to drive one without it.

Air suspension has been available for some time with the Ram trucks and when they fail they are very expensive to repair or replace components. Many unhappy Ram owners of trucks with the air suspension.

Most people use their trucks like a station wagon and so the suspensions have gotten softer and softer over the years. I prefer pickups that have rear leaf springs so I can upgrade the payload capacity if I want or need to do so.

I’ve got a Limited Crewmax with 6.5’ bed and the rear air suspension. I’ve got to say I really enjoy the drive. I test drove a few trucks without it, the difference on most roads isn’t much, but your issues sound worse than normal. Hope they get it figured out for you.

I will never understand why Toyota, being the most reliable truck, would put a non-reliable suspension. I can’t think of any vehicle manuf that has a reliable air suspension. To me, it’s not a long term suspension component that will last as long as a regular suspension and as cheap to fix. I have had 3 Trailblazer SS with the same system as Toyota. Has a lever arm to adjust, blah, blah, blah. It was garbage. Luckily the TBSS guy’s had a solution, remove air bags, switch the shocks and add springs. No more issues, ever. Hope they get it right for you.

You can adjust the rear AVS default height yourself with a 10MM wrench near both of the rear tires under the truck. You have to loosen a nut and then slide the bar down a bit then tighten it back. This will add an inch or two to the rear ride height and make it so you don't feel it hitting the bump stops all of the time over small bumps. I've seen quite a few posts on here about it, with pictures. I'm planning to do the same to mine once I have a front leveling kit installed. It doesn't affect warranty as the height is still within designed range and still allows the AVS to adjust as necessary depending on load.

Take a look at this thread: https://www.tundras.com/threads/leveling-22-platinum-with-avs-air.99893/
