2019 Tundra CM Limited. So I haven't liked the "Premium" JBL head unit from the beginning. The Navigation is useless. Toyota refuses to do an update unless I pay for it. The salesman lied when I asked about Android Auto upgrade, lips moving..lol The volume/sound quality is poor unless you use XM and even then the bass is non-existent unless it's on certain channels. The "passive" sub sucks. What are my options? Only requirements: Android Auto, subwoofer output and clean professional appearance. I am fine with installing amps and subs/speakers. Thanks in advance!

I feel like you can buy the upgrade cards online for the navigation but who uses built in Nav programs anymore? Everyone’s got a smart phone with at least one navigation app. The card install for the nav is fairly easy but I don’t remember how long it’s been since they did a new version.

The problem is that I want android auto on the radio screen, which unfortunately means a new head unit.

First, you can update the firmware yourself and it may help with some things. Easy to do https://www.toyota.com/firmware-updates/updates

The sound settings are different for each source. So changes to radio volume and eq in XM, will not carry over to the radio or other sources so you need to adjust each source based on your preferences. No issue there, just designed that way.

2nd gen Tundra HUs suck, so moving to aftermarket will have huge improvements in sound and features.

I checked and there aren't any updates available. I found a alpine head unit that has maestro and data-link built in, which will allow the tundra to still interface with the head unit. There was a concerning warning on crutchfield about switching out all of the low independence speakers if bypassing the onboard amplifier. That seems like a lot of work and money

That adapter only works with head units that already has android auto, but requires you to plug your phone in to the USB cord for it to interface with you're phone. It allows a wired android auto radio to become wireless. Thanks.. it looked promising!

I get the volume and eq are separate for every source. What I'm talking about is that the bass and sound is rich and full on the kiss fm XM station and the new pop music stations but flat on classic rewind and rock XM stations. I put in a cd and it's flat with the eq adjusted. I use Amazon music and it's flat with the eq adjusted. I guess once you have a quality aftermarket system with true powered subs and component speakers, there's no comparison. I guess JBL isn't what it used to be. The stock system relies heavily on the front door speakers for all bass. I guess I'm annoyed that there isn't any consistency even with sound quality across XM or the other sources. When I listen to Metallica and know there should be descent bass drums and it's missing and I flip over to the kiss fm channel and the latest dumb pop song is making my mirrors shake, I'm a little pissed and butt chapped!
