I wrote this post a couple of hours ago and it got deleted. Let's see if it stays up since I put it in the same thread forum where there are a million other questions just like these.

I know you have read a million of these but I feel I have a different example. I own the rare 4.0 V6 Tundra (2009) and I paid $17,500 back in October 2019 with 29,000 miles or so. Skip a few years and I have 41,000 miles and I'm being offered $16k on the major sites. Three-four months ago I was being offered $17k.

Knowing that it's the V6 and it has some paint issues, should I get out while I can and drive an older car for a while until the market settles out?

I can get a decent Grand Marquis for $7k-$8k and drive that around town for a while.
Thoughts? Crazy? Keep it and drive it till the paint falls off or take advantage of the price while I can on a Tundra without the V8 engine?

I can’t answer your question, because only you can weight each of the conflicting considerations. That Tundras will be reliable for a very long time, likely longer than anything you’ll buy for less to replace it. Plus trucks will be very different in a few years.

That said, I believe the prices for these trucks will fall significantly very soon. So if you’re looking for a windfall and think it’s not too late, I wouldn’t wait to try to sell.

Maybe you previous post read more like a feeler thread-? Wording on this current post seems ok to me. As long as you don’t offer to sell, or ask us to value your truck.

I'd take 16k and run but no way in hell I'd buy a Grand Marquis. If you need a running around town car and need a 4 door for cheap get a 2005 Camry, Accord, etc even at today's crazy pricing it would only be 4k and will get you where you need to go.

I agree. If youre going to buy a crown vic, buy a $2000 dollar one. Those things are worthless and spending $8000 on one is a terrible investment. (I have an '07 P71 for sale if your interested lol).

I dont see the market settling out, not for double cab pickups. For big suvs like tahoes and expeditions or single cab long bed pickups yes; but not for four door pickups, especially if 4wd. Money is devaluing too fast. Even with rising gas prices i dont see truck prices going back down very far. A tundra like that will last forever. Too me thats worth more than some quick cash. Do you need the pickup utility? Personally I cant live without one. If you dont need it, sell it.

    Hi,

I would keep the Tundra. Is not a V8 but 41k miles is very low. That truck has a lot of life left and it will be very hard to get something comparable with 16k in todays market. Also, no one can tell when this situation will turn around. Maybe soon, hopefully. Maybe not. You may get the other car and then have to spend on repairs and end up loosing. Stay with old reliable!

Does the truck work for your life? Why sell high when youll have to buy high? Inflation is out of control, prices won’t ever go back down

Another vote to keep the Tundra.

The price for the Tundra is great, but if you have to turn around and buy another car it loses the appeal. The thought of overpaying for an old Grand Marquis makes me a little nauseated.

It sounds like if you sell, you would be forced to replace right now. How that is when the truck only has 41k I have no idea lol mileage sounds like an extra vehicle. If it's your sole vehicle I'd keep it. However if it's an extra vehicle and you don't need to replace right now (or maybe at all) I'd cash out. Main problem is I don't think you will ever get back into a comparable truck for only 17500.

Because new stuff always looks more appealing than what we currently have

Sounds like you really want that marquis. I don't think it's a good idea. I would keep the truck.

So follow up question. What got lost in my post was the paint is going fast. So paint the truck or let the paint continue to fade away in the Florida sun?

If the paint was perfect would you want the truck to be your vehicle? Or would you rather a car? Forget what your truck needs or doesn’t need. Do you want a truck? If the truck was in mechanically sound shape and just needed paint, I’d repaint it and keep it
