It was on a group buy here that went sour, but I know SDHQ offers REM polish when ordering, you can also ask Keith from DirtyDeeds because I went to him to get the gears and locker installed.

What company did you purchase them from? I’ll be buying them in the near future. If I can find them REM polished already, it’ll save me the hassle of having to break them in.

I have Nitro Gears, I know SDHQ offers it. There's also Revolution Gears that is popular in the tacoma world. There's threads on the forum talking about experiences for both gears.

I'd love to regear my truck but worried my lifetime powertrain would be voided....

Gears will help your tranny, SC will give you power. What do you want? remember that the SC will require 93 octane. Ideally both SC and gears is the way to go.

I don't think this question was addressed, but I also have a similar question ... for a 34" tire (285/75/17) will a 5.29 re-gear be beneficial? I'm hauling a ~500lb GFC wedge camper, ~300lb Decked unit, and a fly rod case ... that's a fair bit of wind resistance and weight so I'd love to gain some fuel economy and range.

I’m pretty sure you’re going to get your performance back that was lost due to larger tire diameter, heavier tire weight, your payload weight, and the decreased aerodynamics that you’ve got. Not sure you’re gonna gain MPGs, but it shouldn’t have any negative effect if you drive appropriately.

At least I hope that’s the case, since I have 34” tires and extra weight. And my 5.29’s are being installed right now…. Hoping for all positives…

Yes, when I only had gears, the gears offered biggest advantage when towing/carrying really heavy stuff, with the supercharger, it just scoots, and has zero affect on hwy speed, highly recommend do both.

Will do. I have high hopes, as I’ve regeared other trucks in the past. In my opinion, it is more important than any power adder and should be the first step on your path to overcoming that sluggish feeling after putting on bigger tires.
I went with Nitro, as they were well regarded. It also helped that I was able to get them at my friends cost, which was just over $1K for gears and full install kits.
The only shop near me that I’d trust with gears is constantly busy. It’s a very large shop, but they only have one guy that does all gear setups. He’s a busy fella, but meticulous. I made my appointment in January, and just dropped it off earlier this week. Really looking forward to getting it back…

Ok. I’m about 50 (s)miles into my break in period after picking up the truck today on lunch break. While I am not driving in any fashion that could be considered aggressive or sporty, I can say that these gears make a significant difference. Truck feels “light” again, like when it had light weight little tires plus in tow/haul mode. Acceleration is effortless and requires very little input on the gas knob.
Really looking forward to laying the wood to her in a few hundred more miles…

Ok. Made it through 500 total miles yesterday. Headed for the woods on Saturday and rallied about 40 miles in 4-by, in hopes of getting the front end hashed out. Oil change looked great. Just a bit of metallic fines on the magnets.
Refilled with Valvoline 80/90 Dino oil, as it was about all I could find that did not contain any LS additive.
All I can say if Holy Fuck this is awesome. Everyone should have it done if they’ve got tires bigger than OEM. Acceleration is effortless and it feels so much better. Really woke ‘er up big time.

all done, I’m about $1700 into the gears, Grip Pro, and an oil change. Another $1680 into the shop for install, which included new axle seals. So, for $3,400 I don’t think I could ask for more bang.

Every time I see this thread gears are the obvious choice to me. Such a rad improvement, as you see. Nice work.

TC long travel. Deaver 420 SU leaf packs.
Larger tires puts more stress on the drivetrain. Compensating for that by adding hp (AKA more stress) doesn't make sense to me. To me it makes more sense for longevity and durability to do gears first, then the SC for the smile factor.

As a new 5.29 swap convert, I can certainly agree on the feeling of the truck once tires and a lift go on and gears are swapped.
