Hotel or towing a 16-24 ft Airstream?

 

Now you've got me thinking...I've already ordered 285/70/17s, was originally gonna go with 275/70/17.

 

You will probably be stoked if you have good backspace.

 

So far I am very happy with all of the choices I have made regarding my build (except one) I do like the look of beefy tires so we'll see what happens. My regret so far is taking my throttle body cover to a local powder coating shop. They did a nice job but the iForce plate is gone...nowhere to be found. The owner said he was going to have someone make one. Ha! what a joke. I bought another on eBay may just remove the plate and put it on the fresh cover.

 

If it helps, I just put 275/70/16's on steel rims with a 4 inch back space with spidertrax 1.25, it was hitting on turns on front bumper, not on frame ( trimmed about 1/2 inch off) and rear seam weld, hammered pinch flat and I was good to go.

 

That does help. I'm committed to the wheels- Fuel D810 (already in hand). The shop I'm using has ordered my tires. I'm hoping they will allow me to make a change (size or brand) if I change my mind AGAIN!

 

This exactly...I went spacer route first to avoid frame rub but then rubbed on the pinch weld but nothing a BFH couldn't fix

 

Wife and I have been to Garden of the Gods. Appropriately named. Also have driven the Pikes Peak Hwy although not in my first Gen (yet). We're going to Colorado Springs in September for 9 days. Welcoming ideas for day or overnight trips from there. Pueblo Chiles and Frijoles Festival is awesome. Also been to Royal Gorge

 

I waited for my opportunity, but I moved around a lot so was easy to be patient & renting made more sense.
In 2013 it all came together, I wasn't moving any more, no one was buying houses, mortgages were hard to come by, interest rates were low. I made an offer at 75% of asking (but they were asking too much) & got the place. Yesterday i saw a house down the block on Realtordotcom. Cute house but tired outside, double the lot to me, but it's shaped to be near useless, 1 less bedroom, 1 less bathroom, 500 less sqft. They are asking 270% more than I paid & have a contingent offer on it.
I never consider real estate as an investment, only as a way to control the cost living. But.... if my house was worth about 300% more in 9 years.... maybe I should have sold & hit the road in the RV.

But you have to be patient & folks with families don't usually have that luxury.

Check out the great sand dune, the drive to and from raton, nm. I liked durango and silverton, but early morning drinking coffee, not the trainride.

My experience with the local Toyota Service Center supports this statement (although you are being conservative).

 

Around here the market pretty much dried up from 09-12 and what was being sold was not really desirable (near power lines, train tracks, full of asbestos,etc). Demand still exceeded supply as always.

 

Find a hill in the valley, pull beside a driveway, and pretend your broke down. Helps if you’re not in a toyota, but its a better camping expierience.

 

I'm thinking you need to check the inside of your front right tire - looks like the road edge did some good chewing on it. Last thing you need is a blow-out at speed after all that bad juju.

 

My first trip to COS I rented a rice burner. Thought I'd take it to Pike Peak. Luckily I missed the (left turn) turn and continued following phone directions and ended up instead in Cripple Creek. Old mining town.

I'm on stock wheels though, so I'm sure that factors in. I haven't got to do any real testing yet.

 

Alamogordo and sunspot have always been a favorite. on 6653 theres a construction laydown yard with a road out the back. Prime campage.

the sunspot telescope is shut down, but the grounds are worth walking.

That's about where my 275s sat. 8.5 at 0mm. Like a stock wheel on a 1-1.25" spacer.

 

My wheel is a 17x9 +1 other option was -12

I'd personally vote no Airstream as I'm a sportscar guy at heart and wouldn't tour the country in a pickup...at least not yet.
But a tent and a hammock take up very little space in the trunk of any car. Gotta mix in a few hotels because hot water makes showers much more effective.

My wheels are 17x9 et-12
I only rub the edge of the bumper when I back up...since trimming the bumper a little bit and removing the mudflaps. Stock LCAs tho. I'm curious how it'd all sit with the new SOLO arms.

 

Yea, pulling a trailer gets in the way of exploring. But its better than a motorhome, cause once you set up camp, you can take the truck out and about. Tents are where its at. Learn to travel light having to pack up every day.

 

They move the wheel forward, visibly so if you look carefully before and after.

 

I have my adjusters pretty maxed out to get as much caster as possible. I reckon the SOLOs would be a better solution for my truck.
