I've never driven one where it was off, I wouldn't know what its like. I've read if its off a tooth it will run but not well. That might align with what she said about it sounding funny and having less power on the late end of her trip. One way or another, the motor is seized. I feel pretty bad about it all. I haven't seen her in 33 years and the happiness has fallen to a kick in the ass.

 

BUT why in the world is your shirt tucked into your boxers?!? My dad did/does this but I thought that was a thing of the 50s or the drugs talking

 

For the past few weeks I have felt like an outsider because these pages go so fast and I have no idea what's being discussed.

Burn that Veto. Don't end up like me. Because now I'm either going to have to spend $100k to build a building that's smaller than I really want, or move...and spend an extra $100k because of the inflated market.

 

Oh on that specific house, the wife decided no offer. I did not have to veto. It’s part of the process. I wanted her to have full autonomy and not feel held back in any way. We will be in a better spot if the market cools. Or if we find something we both want to overpay for then cool, I’m game. She could tell I wasn’t doing jumping jacks. The general location is on our radar though. Just way better if it were a few hundred thousand less.

I picked out that 3 bedroom with potential and she didn’t like it but that’s honestly our best play. Or big house on a big lot but further away. Big house with good lot in prime location is going to really hurt price wise. And will become a miserable experience in todays market.

 

Oh and right now I’m hoping for the opportunity to spend probably 150+ to get one extra bedroom in our footprint. If the city approves and I can somehow locate workers willing to work who aren’t already busy doing other work. Nuts. In the meantime we bleed money working the permit process. For a simple room above a room.

For me, it drastically affected how much I enjoyed working on my own stuff.
Organizing hardware was easy. Even on VWs & Audis where there's 10000 copies of ~10 fasteners on each car. Muffin pans were the easiest method I found.

Mix in a little Palmolive with that Fast Orange. Makes a big difference in effectiveness and thins it a little so you don't have that big glob that falls out of your hand immediately.

I'm particularly fond of my Tag Heuer and my ORIS. Both automatics with date. The Tag even has the day. Cars and watches go together.
Shoes, meh. I like vans for everything but hiking, and Keen for hiking.

Our house is too big, the lot too small, the location is pretty close to perfect.

Don't shy away from going a little further from town. IDK of any cities/towns that aren't expanding. They'll get to you sooner than you think.

Speaking of being better. Does anyone venture to the Turd gen section? The amount of issues for the 2022 are really starting to pile up. Most are small(like part of the mirrors just falling off). Some are worse like the turbo issue. I'm sure they will work it out but it's further proof it isn't a great idea to buy the first year of a new design.

 

I have a 2016 Tacoma. I do wonder if the throttle is exceptionally poor. I want to drive some other MT’s or have someone drive mine to see. Other than that, and a rattle in the dashboard near the passenger side it’s great. Then again not quite the same level of redesign.

 

It’s across the board with all makes and models right now. Workers don’t want to work, are under staffed, parts are being made cheaper because of parts availability. The next 2 years I wouldn’t consider a new daily.

things always get worse. Something will start amazing, then through over-engineering, cost-cutting, not understanding what makes it great… it turns into a turd you cant work on, and is over-valued. Sure this model will get more reliable, but the fit and finish will suffer. Plastic bumpers and headlights are the devil.

 

I hear this so much lately and I don't know what to think. On one hand, of course people don't want to work, that's why companies have to pay us to show up. On the other hand, yes, some people do truly suck.

What we're seeing right now is that people are quitting their shitty jobs and finding higher paying jobs. Basically, the employees are going to the highest bidder. It's a very welcome change from the last decade when wages barely increased. If companies can't find employees right now they need to pay more.

Unemployment just hit a 50 year low. It's far more nuanced than people "not wanting to work".

I would encourage everyone to look for better paying jobs right now while we can. We all know most of us will get an annual raise far less than inflation.

Feb2020 was the low, but you were right about the other stuff. More people are moving out of low paying labor jobs and giving themselves better paying titles. But how quality is suffering, means these go-getters dont deserve it, and well, probably best not to talk about inflation. But when i sneak across the border and come back as an illegal, not only did they lose my kids, im gonna be ukrainian and get a javelin.

it doesnt matter. The $15 minimum and $4 gas work out, but it hasnt helped the crime rate any. Too many people, not enough gulags.

 

try taking a slow drive around the area - without kids. Look for the houses hiding behind foundation plantings gone wild, or the dumpster in front of a tired looking house. You know - the old people live here & kids clearing out the parents house getting ready to list but not listed yet houses.
it's the only way to get ahead of current pricing - find the house needs updating & get the updating done to your taste/budget/time schedule.
Maybe take a google fly-over first for those hidden gems you can't see or realize what they are from the street.

2nd this. My house wasnt listed when i bought it. I was in the neighborhood to look at another house and saw the realtor lady carrying the sign. Like it was meant to be. Met the owners that day and had a contract before having to haggle.

I'm certain you know this, but I feel it must be spoken. If companies pay more for employees, they must offset that which normally translates to - raise their prices. Higher wages for all doesn't mean greater wealth, it just means we are adding a zero, a multiplier.
I used to get paid $10 a week, now I get paid $100 a week.
I used to pay $1 for bread, now I pay $10 for bread.
I'm making $100! ...but bread is still .1 of my income.
Doesn't really get you anyplace.

If I offer the highest wages, I just get the wage chasers passing through the revolving door. I want more than them on my team.
In the last year I haven't changed wages much, minimally. I have added funeral leave, tuition reimbursement, free access to financial planning, the state added paid family leave. It's a great time to be at a company coming of age. The employees I got to sign on are far better quality than the wage chasers I've dealt with over my careers. Of course you'll say I am paying more for employees & you are right - but not directly through wage increases. The things I am offering (as above & otherwise) I can leverage & give better value to my employees than they could do themselves with a straight wage increase, and of course it ends up costing me less which lets me hold my pricing.
