Yup! That's the one. I don't have space for a floor setup and that seems to be the best option for me.

Got the new driver window regulator in today. (Forgot the pics) Window closes perfect now. Gonna get the topper put on when the rain clears up and I can drive in my yard to get it.

Also did the passenger side front diff axle seal again the other day. Had a set of dial calipers this time around and got it pretty close to where it belongs. So far no leaks.

Would be interested to see pics of these when you get them. Seems like someone was saying that the tracmotive ones changed model numbers but it's still the same part. I got the Trakmotive ones but the model I got doesn't seem to show up anymore.

Only thing I'm not a big fan of is that the outer part of the diff seal is pretty exposed with them VS the OEM.

Pretty much the same arms with a tad of geometry change as far as I can tell. I don't think I've heard complaints about either.

Got the valve cover bolts taken care of today. Buddy brought over his mig welder. Welded a nut to the bolt, went to try and get it turning and it snapped off. Did two nuts on each side and the bolt just turned and snapped right off. These things are made out of a veal alloy or something. Decided to go full mangle as a last resort, never fails. Got those hookers drilled out, will figure out the rest later. I'm sure @shifty` has been driving around all cocky with his fresh new valve cover seals.

Yeah, I mean ... I've been driving around, not because I want to. I may still have a teeny, tiny dribble in the corner that meets the cam shaft, but I don't think it's because of any of my work. I'm going to re-torque everything this weekend, then follow-up again the next weekend.

Glad to hear you at least made some progress, but WTF? Previous owner must've used red threadlock? But who the hell does that?

Checked with parts today on availability on parts for the interior. Unfortunately the b pillars, door sills, rear plastic and the rear carpet are 100% NLA. Oof.

I was watching a YouTube video on this today because I have an oil leak as well, buddy thinks it’s rear main seal, toyota guys said they suspect camshaft seal, and I’ve never checked or changed valve cover gaskets nor changed PCV valve, so I plan on trying to get everything cleaned up as best I can to get a really good look. Did you use RTV in the corners of the gasket? I thought it was strange in the YT video but I’ve never done it before so what the hell do I know

The manual calls for RTV on those spots. I did mine that way and haven’t had any leaks. I may have a rear main seal leak though :anonymous:

I bought some spacers, a head unit, some front components, and rear speakers. List is almost complete. I just need various interior bulbs and coils.

Yes, get the Toyota FIPG for the job, and know the box says it has a 10-15min working time. Part number in pic below.

For the driver side, consider zip-tie'ing the fuel lines and other line to pull them towards the MC and give yourself more space. Also, there's something that grounds to the front part of the head I pulled off temporarily. On the passenger side, I removed two vacuum hoses coming from the back side of the head and I unbolted my PS resevoir to move it out of the way, then zip-tied its lines to the A/C pipes, pulling it towards the air filter.

Do one side at a time. After pulling your valve cover and each pair of "half moons" (two per side) from the side of the head facing the firewall, clean all the leftover gasket material off the block and moons. You'll notice on each head/valve cover, on the cam side, there are two very sharp right angles (see pic below). That's what the FIPG is needed for.

Spend the time to really clear the previous gasket material at that specific spot. Make sure you get all residual oil off the mating surface all the way around, then the channel of the valve cover. I posted instructions over here on how to do the coil tube gaskets here, mine were hard as a rock.

Once you're ready to reassemble, check for any extra oil that may've leaked over things interim. The new valve cover gasket has wings, so you can press it into the cover ahead of time and it'll stay, work from the middle of the short ends and work outward. Then install the half moons with FIPG as such, then check FSM page below with where to put FIPG before you drop on the cover and torque down as described in FSM below, multiple passes. I paid attention to the FIPG setup time instructions and torqued immediately, I didn't listen to internet mechanics on this who say to wait 1-6 hours before torquing down.

It's really not a difficult job. More complicated than this really needed to be, but ... whatever. Repair is a repair is a repair. Do it right the first time, take your time and you hopefully won't need to do it again soon.

    upload_2022-3-24_21-59-52.jpg

Here's the FSM with the spots to do up and the part number for OEM FIPG - for the half moons sealing show, like the link up there says, you'll push the extra you need up when you install the moons, use that for what the FSM shows over those.
