Yes, I’ve searched the forums… and this question is definitely asked quite often.

Who has recently done their changes and what did you guys use?

I’m looking at Mobil1 75w-95 for both diffs and t-case.

Does the t-case need a different type of gear oil or could I use the same as my diffs?

75-90w of your choice for the front and rear. Go with toyota 75w since it will be readily availableat your dealership within a day or two of ordering.

I had ravenol 75w and just changed mine and it was much darker than I would have liked. I'm running HPL 75w now, and HPL 75w90 in the diffs.

Alot of people run 75w90 in the transfer case, some have good results, some have problems. So I'd recommend the 75w.

Wasn't Royal Purple one of the worse gear oil to use?

When I changed the tcase fluid on my Tacoma at 50k it looked like I poured it out of the bottle. For that reason I have not changed it in the Tundra. I probably will do it in a couple of months.

I saw a few guys running it a little longer than 30k. I'm reaching 30k, so I figured I'd just do the changes.

    Questions:
For towing, what weightshould be in the differential?
Are they actually a limited slip rear end or something else?
I dont quite understand how these rear diffs work in 4x4. Do they need limited slip additive?
    Thanks.

Rear diffs don't work any different in 4wd versus 2wd. I am not sure what year they switched to brake actuated anti slip but it was at least 5 years ago. So you probably don't need the additive or fluid with built in additive.

From what I read, you only need LS if you are running an actual locker - not Tundras Auto LSD. But, doesn’t hurt if your gear oil has it.

I bought Amsoil severe gear for the diffs and Ravenol for the TC. Going to drain and fill all three soon.

Does anyone have crush washer part numbers handy for swapping diff fluid or TC fluid in a late 2nd gen? My truck is a ‘21. I’ve read that some of the plugs don’t even use washers. Trying to find where I read that…

Sold by Blauparts though - so you're looking at additional shipping costs.

Mine is due for this in a month too. I ordered Amsoil this time. I used to used it in my Ram 2500 I towed a lot with and had great luck with it.

I know the 2nd Gen need crush washers.
