I’ll either have the local place do it all at once, or I’ll send the gears to Phoenix and tackle the bearings while it’s away. Might have to have @bmf4069 bring his bearing tool to Sedona

Looks like the one near me is still available (weird seeing the year w/this bumper though). $7800 for a 2005 V8, 4wd, 140k miles, TB/WP done 30k ago. Limited, loaded, leather, wood, steering wheel controls, the full monte.

Greasing shafts today. Had three tubes of grease 5 months ago. Don't really use the grease gun that much. Only thing I can recall is the SPC ball joints once or twice, and the mule driveshaft.

Wonder where I used them other 2 tubes? Anyways, omw to the gas station and then the store.

Wonderful temperatures here. Sunny. Calm. Slight breeze. Tempting to get day buzzed before work tonight

The usual protocol is to wrap it in a bandana and tuck it under the seat next to some gloves.

Strange to see an 05 with an early front bumper. Also it has limited painted mirror caps but black flares, aftermarket maybe?

Could you give me a quick run down of whats involved in greasing your drive shafts. I keep seeing people in this forum saying they are doing this maintenance and have never done it on my truck before. Sounds like its something I need to be doing! It is my baby after all and would like the best for it.

I dont mean to be lazy, I can search exactly what is involved for this in my free time, but if you could just give me a quick summary. Thanks!

I wanna say there’s 8 total zerk fittings on both driveshafts. One front zerk is a bitch to get to and I’ve never been able to grease it. Others have modified an extra grease gun nozzle to fit.

Any lube is better than no lube. I used the mystik shit
    20220303_101403.jpg

Anyways, got everything greased except the center of the double cardin. I'm sure I got some grease in it, but not as much as I'd like. That front zero ain't no joke!

I did have a bummer happen. While I was pulling myself out from under the truck, I put a hole in my Rocker with my finger. Pissed me the fuck off so I hit it with my closed fist.

Can't find my flex tape to seal er up, but on the plus side. Looks like the structural stuff going UP the cab is rust free.

You should buy it. Get the capable 4WD you always wanted, then swap all your stuff over.

Found it odd too, to the point I thought it may've been a malarky advert.

No, not two types. Just one tube of NLGI 2 will work, this is the stuff I use. Every LAPS big-box store and wallyworld will have it ~$10.

    upload_2022-3-3_13-43-40.jpg

There's a plus-side to this. You can clearly see the cancer isn't inside, which is awesome news, repair-wise.

My guess is the truck was rarely waxed, and what started as a pinhole from rocks got to bare metal and ate across the panel. This is exactly why you wax your vehicle and don't let it get chalked out.

And honestly, clear Duck brand packing tape will work wonders. Hit it with a shot of white spraypaint after, nobody will know the wiser. May be worthwhile doing the same to the lower rocker area also to keep water from touching that rust and getting inside while you wait for body work.

Cost of war, I suppose? Gas prices go up, plus I'm suddely seeing 80% less propaganda on social media. Amazing how that works, when you suddenly cut RF off from everything.
