Radar detectors in my opinion are a waste of money.
Most radar units have instant on and laser units have to have you insight.
Spend your money on Tundra mods or supplies for your Cricket machine.

I have the Escort MAX 360C that is awesome & connects via Maestro to my Kenwood HU. It has arrows like a Valentine, GPS speed trap awareness & interconnectivity to user based input similar to Waze.

    https://www.escortradar.com/products/escort_max_360c

It's not cheap but it has saved me from more than it's price in tickets.

    They’re pretty pointless these days.
They were cool in the 90s though.

I'd understand the detectors are pointless comments if the question was should I get a radar detector, but the question was this or that.

I have by virtue of situational awareness, over the last month slowed down thanks to knowing where radar signals were coming from and not been speeding past over 20 officers. Would I have gotten 20 tickets? most likely not but I was not speeding thanks to my radar detector.

I pay 40 a month more for my internet for unlimited data so I don't have to think about it, many months I come within a few GB of the old limit but it's worth the 40 bucks to not pay overage fees, I think of the detector as peace of mind and like having it.

I do use Waze all the time. It's probably more helpful. I don't usually speed anyway. The flow of traffic in this area is about 7 to 10 over. I could just upgrade my old Thinkware X500 dash cam. The Thinkware F200 Pro pretty much has the same specs but a smaller footprint since it doesn't have the LCD screen.

My last ticket was in a rented Car without my detector in the California desert 40 miles or so from the Az border. I was 6 over in a group of cars going the same exact speed.

if I had my detector I would not have been over.

Are you giving justification for breaking the law or owning a detector?

I'm having a conversation about radar detectors, OP asked a question. If you want a debate about the justification for their use maybe start a thread?

Radar detectors are not illegal in my state and I only use them in states that don't exclude them. Are you claiming you never go a few over?

I haul ass everywhere I go.
    I haven’t owned a radar detector since 1992.
    1 ticket.
    Hm.

This thread is fine for discussing the attributes of having or not having a radar detector.
I’m just amused that you’ve invested so much effort into it.
    Thanks for playing along.

    Hmmmm

So you have responded 4x and claim I'm overinvested (this is my 5th response, three to you)

You first accused me of being a scofflaw for speeding and then said you speed all the time.

    Interesting.

It's interesting you admit you speed while indicating I was wrong to speed, it's interesting you said I am overinvested while displaying a large investment.

    Radar detectors are awesome!
    I use a uniden R7 and a belttronics 300
    I love them both.
Most everyone speeds STFU and get out the fast lane if you dont.
Most police never use instant on or pop radar. Some do, majority dont, they Cruz down the road with it always on.

Interesting comments. Personally, I think radar detectors are good for helping to stay alert even if you’re not speeding.

There has been numerous times my Escort 9500 picks up K band or laser and the cop is nowhere in line of sight. A half mile or so later I’ll see the trap.

Radar works well if the road isn’t heavily driven because waze or google may not indicate this trap through crowd sourcing. Or you may be driving in the middle of nowhere with bad cell signal which means your apps won’t work well.

I can’t comment on the Max 3, although I get a ton of spam mail about it since I have the 9500 and 8500 models. The 8500 works great imo, so if you can save a few bucks go that route. The max 3 has an optional side dash cam which seems cool... I’m sure it’s expensive all in.

My recommendation is for an 8500 that is powered through your rear view power using a wire tap. Set it and forget it...

I’d save and hunt eBay for a valentine one with ESP and has the new filter updates. I spent close to 500 for my old redline and it’s sensors aren’t able to be updated.

A radar is very useful for sniffing out piggy’s on the road regardless if you are speeding or not.

Valentine one gets my top pick, they offer updates for older models like the v1 with K filter options. We do get a fault from time to time but the wife and I know to scope out of a Honda is around. Honda’s use a blind spot monitor that faults Valentine’s.

Keep that wave and what ever the “crowd” are using. My phone stays off and often not with me. Guess I’m an old timer
