That I don't know. I didn't research it really hard because I don't have one. I think they are different, but I can't be sure.

No way a hybrid or turbo charged engine lasts like the earlier versions of the 4runner. Just more failure points and parts that fatigue with time

... and once they have a release date they'll release part of a photo of the vehicle every few months or so; and then once it actually hits the dealers, you'll be able to only get the trim levels you don't want but you'll take it anyway because you can't wait for 2024 to get your new ride!!!!

Remember the 3.0 3VZE? The one that blew head gaskets all the time?

    Can't be worse than that.

I just want to see the damn thing exists at this point. We've been seeing taco spy shots for a while now yet not a glimpse of the 4R.. Either they're keeping its production in Japan or 2024 may not happen either.

my 4th gen, 2006 4runner with the 4.0 hauls ass and has good power. Guessing the newer models have added weight so performance suffers?

Weight is probably one factor - like a lot of trucks/suvs (and even cars) you can clearly see they have gotten bigger and bigger with each new gen. Especially when you see them side by side. The other is, and I've never driven a 4th gen, I suspect the transmission tuning is not as lazy/tuned for max efficiency like the 5th gen is. The 4.0 I think is fine, it's how the transmission puts the power down (or doesn't). Mine always seems to be in too high of a gear, resulting in either sluggish/bogged down acceleration or delays as it figures out you'd actually like to get somewhere today and finally decides to downshift a couple of gears.

This is how it is for the GX460 vs the GX470. The 460 has higher power/torque numbers and a higher axle ratio, but when I drove them back to back the 470 just felt like it had more grunt. The 460 is just tuned to be lazy. A pedal commander did help wake it up a little.

good thing I just purchased VFTuner.
