Thats pretty neat. Never heard of one until you brought it up.

It'd be nice if someone could invent an impact socket that works at 90 degrees instead of 45.

Now that I've spent some time with my DeWALT impact I slightly regret getting the big one. Most of the time I've wanted to use it, it hasn't fit in the space I need it.

Battery for the Durango finally came in today. Old one almost celebrated its 11th birthday, dated April of 2011.

Replacement wasn't as hard as I was expecting since it's under the passenger seat. Positive cable has a interesting wedge on it to prevent it from shifting and hitting any metal. Should've vacuumed but it was 15° and I was working in the driveway so it'll wait.

Well if you need to remove a wheel bearing or crankshaft bolt, you won't be underpowered. My old style m18 Milwaukee (450 ft lbs) combined with an m18 stubby i plan to buy ( yeah, I know I returned the m12 stubby haha) should work for almost anything.

I've been expecting it for awhile, to just a few days ago it threw a bunch of codes trying to remote start. Put a meter on it and it dropped to 7v during cranking , other than that it ran perfectly fine.

In all likelihood we'll be buying something new in 23 and this'll be the daughters car until it won't pass inspection.

It probably doesnt work in every situation, but i used a pipe manifold as a cheater bar (on a breaker bar, ratchet for illistration). If anyone wants to be a hundredaire, market wrench cheater bars with a bent handle. No busted knuckles doing brakes on the honda.

i liked it. Had about 10k miles when grandpa got rid of it in the early 2000s. They’ve got a funky sort of wax operated choke, like a thermostat.

After holding and staring at the isolators, I'm going to go a different route that should solve the issue and have a solid bolt points at every corner of the plates.

I was going to pull the third member this morning, but kids and wife's brakes got in the way. So, now I'll be doing it this afternoon on one of the hottests days of the year (winter anyway)

And, I still feel bad about posting like an idiot last night @des2mtn

It seems to come down to lock it down or allow for some movement. I'm leery of lock it down with M8 bolts and because I've read some found the problem to be over torque. My plan is to go least modding first. It could just be proper washers are needed or grease or spacers or...lol

Giving the thermal blanket and downdraft a run on the smoker. I've been told there's a foosball game happening but I'm just working through a freezer full of pig.

Welp, we have a furnace again on the main floor of the house. If this HVAC dude even thinks about billing me for his visit to diagnose, he's not gonna like the campaign I'm going to push on him. Took me 10 mins and a $25 part, but dude tried to tell me we should drop $12k on new units, "units are dying".

    upload_2022-2-13_20-13-9.jpg

I keep a length of copper pipe in the shop for just this reason. It's a little more svelte with similar rigidity.

Funny you mention, I was just snapping shots of my Dewalt (not heavily used, batteries are just old/dead) to throw on NextDoor or something. Just couldn't decide what to charge.

    Ha!

Yeah, I'll be shocked if I can get $50 for it.

I'm tempted to crack open one of the battery packs and re-pack it with fresh batts. But I think I'm just gonna let it go and use the funds to get a new one.

I wish someone out there sold a right-angle butterfly style driver with a standard driver in one kit. I'd buy it.

DeWalt makes an adapter to run the 20v batteries on the 18v tools. Only complaint is you can't leave the batteries connected or they'll drain overnight, but it's far cheaper than new tools.

I bought it based on your suggestion over here.

The way it fits into the driver is janky as hell, pic below, without the battery. It's virtually impossible to remove the adapter to fit in the case without prying off with screwdrivers on both sides. I think I'm out about $60-70 on the charger and adapter, I'd be spending the same on batteries if I continue down this path, which I won't.

OTOH, a new new 20v unit with two batteries is about 20% more than what I'd be invested if I bought the batteries and I'd have a spare charger. I should've dug deeper before taking the plunge on the adapters, was a really piss-poor judgment call on my part trying to make old tools work with new tech.

    upload_2022-2-13_21-1-21.jpg

Comparison of stock battery with the 20v battery adapter - I don't think the driver would sit stable once you plugged the battery into the tiny 20v adapter:

Yeah it's by no means a perfect solution. The spring latches do loosen up over time and use but they are a bitch to remove at first. I have the 5ah batteries and the tools are pretty stable with those.
