Poll - New 2022 Tundra Owners Please Post Comments on Real World Mileage

Well I changed my vote. Drive super peepaw and it’s achievable I guess. That drive was about 40-50 mph with a few stops

 

More like 50-55.

 

This one was shortly after the drive above. Only difference was it was mainly 50-62 or so.

 

You can change your vote again and again.
But driving super peepaw is not real world mileage. IMO
If I drive like a granny at 45-50 mph and feather it I can get 11.5 -12. l/100 on my 2018. Thats 20 mpg.
But no one drives like that- that I know of.
This thread will be the most helpful to people if real world conditions mileage is reported.

says he has averaged 15 mpg for the duration of ownership.

399.9 miles 26.5 gal = 15 mpg reported & calculated

 

Mixed driving, three fill ups now…18.6, 18.4, 18.9. Not driving aggressively or passively and “trying to save gas”. 4x4 is supposed to get a combined 19mpg…I’d say it’s spot on. Haven’t towed yet and curious to see what I’ll get.

 

I think/hope once these engines get more miles and loosen up the mpg will increase. Also getting out of the colder months and winter blend fuel should help.

I lose 2 mpg on my current tundra from winter blend and increased rolling resistance on cold tires. No reason to suspect the new design won't be similar.

I may have missed it, but has anyone ran a few tanks of 91-93 octane to see if mpg increases?

 

I ran 90 octane ethanol free and I only saw approximately 1 more mpg.

 

Another tank, except this one has approximately 100 miles with a new wheel and tire setup. 16.4 by gauge and 16.52 hand calculated.

 

1609 miles on truck at fillup. 468 miles on the trip odo 28 gallons to fill up so hand calculated 16.7. 80% highway driving and multiple 10 minute warm ups. I drive fast on the highway cars permitting 80 to 85 mph on My 26 mile commute to work.
Previous vehicle was a 2017 Tacoma lifted with 33s that averaged about 12 miles to a gallon. Very pleased with the results although I did not buy the tundra for mpg.

 

What mpg do you get going 85?

 

Not sure that is the tank average. I don’t look at the truck calculations because I don’t want to be disappointed

 

Will be interesting to see what people with E rated tires and small lifts get. My buddy is averaging about 18, stock 6.5 bed crew cab.

 

Anyone else with lifts/bigger tires have real world mileage?

 

I should fill up tomorrow and I downloaded an app that’ll track my miles so I can get a true number. I’ll have a real number in the next week or so

 

You can simply calculate the miles too. By finding your tire percentage larger then the stock and multiplying that by your truck mileage. Probably more accurate then a satellite controlled phone app.

15.55 mpg with 275/70r18 Cooper Evolution M/T

 

Not averaging 19 mpg.... he said they got 19MPG unladen and while not towing on the highway which, IMO, is disappointing. If you include the towing and other hard testing the average will be way lower than 19 for the 5000 miles.

 

Considering that’s winter driving, and considering that’s driving around 75 mph and considering epa highway is based around 55 mph. That’s sounds pretty good to me. I don’t understand why that disappoints them. Unless they were expecting higher then epa ratings in winter.

 

I gotta say I was neutral on the looks of the 2022, but that picture of that trim model (whatever it is) in that color, in that lighting, from that angle is just downright ugly IMO. And 99% of that ugliness is found in the front end. The other 1% is the fender flares/trim or whatever those black pieces are called. Not a good look at all.

 

My onboard readout is showing 13.2L/100km (17.8mpg) over 600km of mixed use. I'd guess it's a close split of 50% highway cruising and 50% city / traffic jam / auto start warmup.

I'll do an actual calculation when I fill up next week.
Also I'm only on my second tank, but I'd say this tank's useage represents my normal use quite well.

 

We will see if the numbers start reversing with warmer March weather.

 

I get 14.3 mixed use over 700 miles. That’s as real word as is gets.

 

16.1 mpg with 275/70r18 mud tires, no leveling kit. That’s with 80 mile round trips including stop and go and warm ups from the Texas ice

 

All mileage is as real world as it gets.

 

I checked my math yesterday at fill up and the truck computer was bang on. Readout was 13.4 L/100km over 707km of driving. Filled up with 94L and it calculated to 13.45 L/100km. This is about 17.5mpg.

A little less than expected, but it is a cold winter, I idle and warm up every time, and the truck may still be breaking in.

For reference, my F150 5.0V8 averaged about the same in the same conditions and weekly commuting routine.

 

End of a 30 ish mile drive today. Best I’ve gotten.

most of my tanks end up in the high 19s with city and hwy driving.

it has seemed to get better as it’s broken in and getting warmer.
