I am closing in on my first year of ownership as the second owner of my 2005 DC. Time has confirmed that I made the right decision. The family vehicle is an Ford Expedition with the 3-valve 5.4 liter engine. I have immersed myself into all things Toyota and have learned that Toyota has a code for every engine that they build like my 2uz-fe. I find that knowing the engine code is very useful when looking for parts.

I don't see that Ford has or publishes engine model numbers. Is published engine model numbers unique to Toyota?

Definitely not, Subaru, Honda, I think VW and Audi all do the same thing…probably among many others.

Yep. My other cars are subarus, they all have engine specific codes, like EJ253 vs EJ259

I think ford just uses names. Triton, Vulcan, zetec, etc.

Years ago I had a few European cars and they used engine codes. Volvo: B21, B230, B230T (turbo). Mercedes: 102 (4cy), 103 (6cly), etc.

Ford uses names on some engines, like the current 5.0 is a coyote. The supercharged 03-04 cobra's were terminators. My wife has a 12 king ranch expedition and it has given us trouble free service. It's at 140k miles now and does not use a drop of oil between changes. I did replace the shocks/struts on all 4 corners recently bc one was leaking. My sister has a 97 expedition that is right at 200k miles and never repaired much on it. within the last two years I have replaced the original starter and alternator on it. It did have one plug blow earlier in life, but a quick heli coil fixed that.
