Sub channel is simply a mono channel with very limited frequency range, ie. 20-100 hz. In your application, you’re right. You don’t need a digital sound processor. You would need it if you wanted to replace the actual mid-high speakers and install a new amp. You need to “unprocess” the highly processed sound the factory jbl system produces.

Where did you tap into the remote power for the amp?

By doing it this way, does it turn on and off as it should? Any pop when you turn it on or off? Are you using the bass remote too? I like the idea of adding a little more power to the sub, but want to know the details before I start anything

Its really clean no popping i got a remote for bass boost and a remote for the loc kind of stupid but it works i leave the remote for loc about60 percent and adjust bass remote accordingly. I plan on getting an rca y when i can get a chance. And seeing if it makes a difference also

So, does doing this eliminate the bass distortion from the mids? I think I could live with the stock mids and highs if the bass were better from the sub.

Was contemplating the sub enclosure combo from tech12volts but worried about it still having distortion from the mids when cranked up if I couldn't adjust the bass separately.

I turned my bass all the way down and there is no distortion in the mids and high i jst changed mine to the hilo inputs on the amp last night and quit using the rca inputs and it made it even better. Also if u have one set of sub wires be sure to wire your left and right channels together going into loc or hilo. I kept the loc hooked up jst for the remote since it works off of speaker signal. So still have my sub wire running to its input and then Td off of them to hilos. All i have now is my bass control off amp. This is gona sound weird but its almost as if the factory hu and amp communicate the signal as if they know its there

Definitely suggest doing some sound deadening/dynomat bc there is are quite a few things that rattle also if u decide to go through tech12volts. From what i here he hell of a guy to help ya out dont think he would steer ya wrong

Reviving an old thread here but I am hoping to do this on my 2021 with jbl. I have the kicker substage amp sub combo that was tailor made for my Silverado that I traded in. It has the high level inputs so I won’t be using an add-on device but no way to adjust anything. I am going to try this method to see if I can get it to work. It also turns on when it receives input (no remote wire).

I am going to try running the wires outside the truck and seeing how it sounds (or if it even works) when I turn it on. If all goes well I will do the full install and stand the sub up behind the rear seats (in the Silverado it faced down under the seat) but it sounded awesome and was all I needed bass-wise on that truck.

i appreciate your write up because it’s the closest thing solution-wise to what I would like to do.

Welp… I did a preliminary test and ran the wires outside of the truck, spliced into the sub wires and everything sounded good. So I pulled the power wire through the firewall. Ran all the wires down the channels under the paneling and buttoned everything up.

And. Then. I. Went. To. Reinstall. The. F***ing. Seat.

Doesn’t fit. The dang seat will not fit in with the sub box installed. I guess I just assumed it would. I left all the wires for now. I’ll check into a different sub solution in the future but man I was just hoping this would work. The last thing on my mind was “will the sub even fit?”.

Anyway that’s my update, thanks for reading.

Yeah tiny space behind the seat. Limits what you can put back there. Some have taken out the big piece of deadening matt behind the seat to get an extra tiny bit of space. It’s crazy that the cab is so big but no where to put anything.
