    I was surprised to see P & F when I looked under my engine's black "pop-off" cover.
In the first photo I've temporarily, just for the photo, removed the plastic, whiteish
hue cover that snaps onto, and over, the stainless metal piece with the numbers. It's
snapped back on now. My fingertip is on each piece of foam that I'm questioning. A
couple of the foam pieces are over six inches long and four inches tall.Plastic.jpg F1.jpg F2.jpg F3.jpg F4.jpg

I had covers off of other engines and never seen something like this before, I can see the underside of the cover having something applied to. I would say that the purpose of the foam is to control/dampen noise, probably mostly the injectors since the opening solenoids can be noisy. The way this designed it sure doesn't aid in heat dissipation, but then I am not Mike Sweers either.

I see you have a 2018 TUNDRA Limited.
Have you popped off your engine top cover
and looked for this foam on your engine?

I am positive it is for noise control only. I bet that foam gets nasty over time and a bunch of dirt gets trapped in those areas, if mine gets that way the foam will go in the trash. I don't like anything dirty, whether I can see it or not.

Thank you all for answering. If you've had it on your operating engines
for years, then my concern for it catching fire is VOIDED! :woot:

I was at the dealer today to ask about getting another key & fob, so I asked
about the Foam & Plastic too. The service guy told me the Foam is a noise
dampener. The plastic covers are protection for those pieces that they snap
    onto. That's It!
