Bought an aftermarket black grill yesterday. I started to take the stock one off and it seems there are a couple of hidden fasteners or clips. I didn't want to break anything. Anybody have any pointers to remove it properly?

Hey Joe, imop this was somewhat of a poor design. The fasteners are a square headed bolt that slides into a slot. When I went to take off original grill, the majority of them stripped on me. I just ordered a aftermarket grill. I would try to take them off with a ratchet and not with a drill. I ended up super gluing all of my new ones in place to hopefully prevent the stripping. Good luck.

Are those square bolts behind the upper insert? That looks like a PIA to get off without breaking the tabs. All the easy bolts on mine are regular 10mm. Plus two I can see but can't get a wrench on.

I actually took off my grill to plastic dipped it and once you took off the bolts I think there's about 8 bolts you just have to push up and pull a little hard...it does sound like it is snapping the plastics off but it's fine...its scary at first but once you can see where/how it snaps into place you will understand...enjoy and put some pictures up of the end results

Cool, thanks Rick. That's what I thought but I didn't want to just go for it and wind up breaking it. Better safe than sorry.

Thanks for posting this, I'm going to paint my chrome surround and see if the paint will stick if I prep it right
