I'd ask James about the audison amp. It would be a good starting point....just push the factory sub a little bit harder, if it blows, you could try swapping in a better sub in the factory box......maybe you'll hit a sweet spot.

    Lol.
Sometimes audio shops will look for a guennie pig to make a vehicle specific kit.

You could also try contacting oem+ and see what they say. Your most difficult hurdle will be the box

@Danimal86 ya know.... I was just thinking. Not sure how a 5 channel amp would do with 14 speakers. Especially since all the speakers seem to be 2 ohm. Do these type of factory systems have setups like a component system with crossovers and whatnot? Seems at minimum I would need 7 channels and I have never seen an amp that large. Also, there must be some sort of time alignment built in somewhere that I will lose, no? :annoyed:

F*** IT!!! I’m gonna trade this F’er in for a 2019 Avalon! I heard they have 10” subs!!

    JL speakers in the door.
I am where the OP began.
I have a 2008 Sequoia Limited with the 14 speaker JBL system.
Car is being driven by son, and sometimes daughter. The JBL 6x9 in front door suffered from surround rot. Replaced with a pair of JL Audio 6x9. Daughter was using vehicle then . Both had rotted.
She liked it so much I replaced the rear door 6 1/2 rear door with JL Audio.
Son started using vehicle and wiped out one of the 6x9’s.
Son purchased a pair of JBL’s and an Infinity Kappa 800 for sub.
Pulled factory sub. Guess what it is a bastard sub. Dual voice coil, but each channel connects to a separate voice coil. Four speaker connectors.
    Looking around this is unobtanium.
    Any ideas?403C821F-B3AB-48B4-B93B-0813188B4796.jpg

    Anybody figure this out?
I just pulled my sub, realized it’s dual voice coilover and I bought a single voice coilover. I’m assuming one pair of wires from the truck go to one side of the new dvc sub and the other pair of wires go the the other side of the new dvc sub.
After reading this thread though, it sounds like a new sub won’t do much due to the crappy amp????

It doesnt sound good imo. Definitely not loud enough. Our factory box is pretty crappy. external amp is what you should get.
Can you not combine both positive together and both negative together? This way u can power the sub. Or just use one set of the factory wire. See how it wounds.

I don’t know …..I’m not a big stereohead. All I do know is a dual voice coilover sub would give me the right amount of connections like the stock one. I’ve read several things about 2ohm, 4ohm and running things parallel that I’m not sure what’s what.

I would probably see if u can return the sub and get the one with dvc. This way it will be the same as factory set up.

Yeah for sure, already have the return label printed and it’s boxed up to go back to Amazon! I’m gonna do some more research, as this was supposed to be just a simple swap in my mind to hopefully get a little better bass from the sub but it seems there’s more to it and I didn’t really want to drop a lot into my stereo…….I’m actually happy with its performance and don’t need anything fancier.

Not quite simple. U will have to drill new holes for the new sub. It will not match up to the factory pre-drilled holes. Make sure to use some foam between the sub and sub box to get a better seal. The factory pre-drilled holes are raised. Not flat. There will be air space if u dont use some foam. Your new sub may or may not come with some foam. I know the Polk 8” db and mm1 series comes with foam.
So, check on those before buying. I would go ahead and unmount the factory sub and look at how it is mounted and measure the depth. Just to be sure your new sub would fit. I have use both polk db and mm1 before and both fit fine for the depth. Had to drill new holes though.

I think Ohm’s law math would say with a 2 and a 4 in parallel it can’t be higher than the lowest resistance.
