What have you done to your 1st gen Tundra today?

Didn’t die.
Put the old suspension in the bed to help settle everything. Going to drive it a week or two before I get it lined up and order tires.
Still need to install the diff drop and buy/build front sway links.
I may yet have to swap the front struts L for R. I haven’t decided if I put those MFers in backwards or not. Need to get that ish done before alignment also.

 

Installed my front Durobumps with spacers today. Spaced the other factory bumpstops as well.

Pull off the oem so you get full effect of the duros

 

Hmm. I haven't really seen this done before. My understanding is that they're designed to be used with the oem's, and they're really intended to damper bumps up to the oem bumpstop point, which provides a hard stop if it makes it that far. Unfortunately, Duro doesn't really provide any info with these either, so I'm just going on info I've found scattered about elsewhere.

 

I'd really like to see chocks in front of your front wheels - since you are 'testing' concrete strength & all....

 

I did the same thing with an 8awg lead to the battery but I put this behind my driver taillight. Tucks in there super nice like and makes it easy to add anything else you’ll ever need in the shell.

After further testing, the antenna kind of sucks. I lose 2 stations in certain parts of town. Someone was right all along... But it looks cool.

 

Wait - did you use the 'Original 6-3/4" antenna', or another version? Just curious. One of the decks I need to park in for work 2x-3x per week, I smack my factory antenna everytime I cross between atriums of the deck (2x per day, so 4x-6x week, going on 3 years now). I've already got a flat spot on my antenna ball.

I'd been mulling over replacing t with a shorty, but I keep hearing your experience over and over again: Shitty reception, loss of key fob range.

 

Key Fob?!?! Oh great. Yes, I used the "Original". Since my lift, my antenna would slap my raised garage door on the way in and out. I was also looking at a Rydonair. Hopefully the algorithm will put it below for us.

 

The one reason I'd consider a switch is the car wash requires removal. But I think I can just stash the correct box wrench in the glove box and be ok on that.

 

I think there are 15, 16 or 18" antennas that will bring it down just below the roof line. That won't sacrifice much reception.

 

Yeah. They sent a new one and gave me a return label for the old one. Took me about 15 mins to swap out and I haven't thought about it since lol

 

After looking at this the last few days, I kind of miss the OEM green, but then I don't when I'm in thr V6.

Headlights installed. Realized that the wire loom I had ordered was not split loop...so it's going back. Ordered some split loop now. Rewired the quick connect for the shell. Going to order that fuse block/fuse back and run an 8 ga line to the battery as was suggested instead of the 16 ga I have now. Installed the new gas prop struts, which work so much better. Was cold in the shell last night! Need a heater.

 

I noticed that my reception in my truck is good in some areas but worse in other areas with my stubby.

My GTI on the other hand, which uses a roof mount, seems unaffected by the stubby. It has good reception everywhere.

 

How long have you had those yoko's? And would you still buy them. Im seriously considering them in 285/70/17

 

I've had them for a year. I actually run SL rated tires, which is why I chose them originally to save weight. @Darkness has run them alot longer and runs E rated I think.

 

I've been running roughly the same size in E rating for almost 3 years. Great tires for street in all weather (I've had them in mild snow and they did okay, rain is excellent by AT standards).

Off road they do well if you're within limits. Sticky mud will pack fast and make traction impossible, but on dirt roads or sand they do very well.

I had a set of the previous version for just over 70k miles, and back then I would drive off road often and abuse them. I think these newer ones are wearing about as well.

 

We are talking about Yoko Geolandars, right?

 

Yeah the AT version. Next time I need tires I'm considering the MT version since my truck isn't daily driven anymore.

i use my stubby for disappointing women and strafing antbeds. (A-10 machine gun noises when appropriate)
Sorry ive giggled about the wording of that post a couple times. And ill show myself out.

but today i took the truck around the neighborhood and out onto the highway. Cycled the 4wd, a/c & heater. Havent moved or started it but twice this month. I think all my electrics are sound, and that takes a big weight off my shoulders. The sequoia would drain within 5 days.

I've always liked their tread patterns and heard great things about them. I can't buy them because my friends are 40 year old high school kids and the "riding on dicks" jokes would never end.

Dang, that gas gauge like SCHWIIIIIIIING!

 

How heavy are those hos? Since I'm planning on running ATs and do a lot of freeway miles, weight is a consideration. Some of these tires (not even E rated) get super heavy and I know that will be a real-life concern when panic-braking on the freeway with stock Tundra brakes.
