Ive been running dash cams for the last two years.

Ive got the Blackview's with front and rear cameras in three vehicles. The rear camera cable just barley reached the back window in my CrewMax. I would like to had a little bit more but it working. Since my rear window goes up and down I left the cable hang straight down not attached to the glass.

The app on my phone lets me connect via bluetooth to the camera and playback video right there and then if something happens. Cop can watch and verify what happened before he writes his report and can confirm that I was not the idiot and the cause of the accident!

Its got GPS and the PC or Mac player that comes with it runs real time synced video while putting you on a moving map with date, time, and your speed.

This could be a good thing or bad thing depending on if you are at, below, or above the posted speed limit and if you are close to your "on the side" skinny crack head or fat titty bar dancer girl friends houses.

It has a "touch the side of it" control to turn on and off the audio recording. So if you want to tongue lash a cop after he pulls you over just reach up there and touch it to turn off the audio (and hope that he's turned his off too). :D

Or just leave it on if the cop is the one failing the "attitude test". Works both ways.

Cops have always been nice to me the very few times I have had to "visit" with them. 4 years in the Navy saying "Yes Sir" is still paying off for me in many ways.

Hope that I never need these but its nice to have peace of mind that its on tape if something bad happens.

Hold the Line! If you are not holding the line, abandon your ship. Destruction is inevitable without more to hold the line!
I run a Mini 0807. It is has a small form factor and is well concealed. It seems to be reliable and durable in the heat because it has a 'super-capacitor' instead of a battery. I tried a Conbrov DC6000, it was ok. I posted a detailed video about the dash cams a while back.

    I have a Viofo A119c. I like it.

Make sure the dashcam you choose uses a capacitor, not a li-ion battery.

And use a high quality "high-endurance" memory card.

Listen to this. If you have a low quality memory card, you will start getting missing/corrupted videos. I alps recommend a high storage capacity card, the loop recording seems to be rougher on lower memory SD cards (Less than 64GB). I run 2 -128 GB cards, they work really well.

I have a rear camera also, just trying to figure how to mount it not on the window as it rolls down. Looking for a bracket that will mount on the ceiling or maybe side rear pillar...anyone figured it out yet?

The big question is the install. Is it a pain to do it myself?

For the front pick a spot that can view/ record but not interfered/ distract you from driving and concentrating. If you choose to run near the front mirror put it to the right or passenger side. You can run the wires up the mirror holder bracket just pull from passenger side and will slide enough for you to run it up to the head board. Then you just tuck the wires inside all the way to the passenger hand grad pillar. Then open the passenger door and tuck under rubber gasket till you reach the bottom of dash board. Run wires under you can choose to tap into a power soared or continue and connect to attached plug for easy simple set up. Not that hard to do except if you want to tap into one of your fuse pannels

Why do you guys own these? Primarily so you can prove an accident isn't your fault? Can these be used in all courts?

Quick story. One night I was driving from work on my way home. I was caught at the intersection as the traffic stopped while it was still green. A ROOKIE cop saw I was in the intersection and wanted me to move over and get out of the intersection. I looked at him and motion I was waiting for the car infront to move as I was too close to switch lanes and did not want to reverse and cause an accident. He was upset I did not move and made a UTurn and pulled me over. Long story short he was going to give me a ticket for blocking the intersection on the RED light and not making it possible for EMERGENCY vehicle to pass if needed. I showed him my camera video of me still in the intersection but was still GREEN light and had plenty time before it turned red. Got NO ticket and told the ROOKIE cop to go see a doctor and check for COLOR BLINDNESS....

I just mounted mine at the top of the rear window and if I roll it down I don't go all the way down. My cord to the camera just hangs straight down.

I might look at building a mount that hangs down from the top of the roof. Just wanted to get mine functional.

I didn't get a rear one, but do you think it could mount on the back of the center headrest, or would that be to low?

Yea I looked at that today on my 4.5 hour drive home from South Texas this afternoon. Might be ok but the higher the better. With my truck being so tall I was looking at possibly the driver side rear head rest to get it up higher.

With me getting that camper shell I need to see if I can get an extension cable to run all of the way to the back glass of the camper.

Heck yea dude! Mine will play right on my iPhone. I got pulled for speeding and I KNEW that I wasn't and offered to pull my video which has speed and running GPS and the cop bailed on me immediately.

I was able to order a 10meter extension cable for my rear camera so that I can run it to the back window of the new ARE topper. :)

Heck yea man, I can play the video back on my phone right there and then at the accident scene before the cop rights the report and to prove immediately that I was not at fault.

YES YOU CAN USE THE VIDEO IN ALL COURTS AND YOU CAN THEN TELL THE INSURANCE COMPANY TO KISS YOUR ASS WHILE YOU DEMAND FOR THEM PAY YOU RIGHT AWAY OR ELSE YOU WILL SUE THEM. The video is a SLAM DUNK when it comes to getting paid with them. They can not drag it out or question ANYTHING otherwise they WILL PAY MORE for adding additional time / pain / and suffering if you do have to sue them and they drag their asses to settle.

Has anyone come up with a good idea for installing a rear dash cam. I had a cheap pair installed on my 2003 Tacoma and I feel exposed not having any on my new Tundra. So far my only ideas for the rear are
    1. Installing on front window, pointing through the truck looking back (not optimal at all)
    2. Installing some kind of a bracket on the rear seat's head rest (better but it will miss a lot of key data like a license plate of someone that rear ended you)
    3. Flush mounting a camera in the rear bumper and have it record to a DVR (worried that camera won't get as good of resolution as all in one "store bought" versions).
    4. Set up a DVR to the back-up camera on the tail gate (Fish eyed video, and not the best quality).
I don't want to a fix anything to the head liner and I want it to look somewhat professional. I would love to hear anyones ideas.

I have also been looking at a dashcam setup. I may have a local shop do an install similar to this 4Runner.

I had one in my Tacoma, then sold my truck and put off transferring it to my car. Had 1,200 miles on the car when I was on the freeway driving home and a semi-truck veered out of the lane, hit me, which caused me spin out in front of the truck and he hit me again. The second impact pushed me into the far lane where I came a couple feet from getting blasted by an oncoming driver.

Trying to be a courteous driver, I backed my beat up car off the freeway so I wouldn’t block traffic, as I was facing the opposite direction halfway in two lanes, which allowed all my witnesses to drive off. The truck driver hopped out and immediately blamed me for turning into him, even though I was not changing lanes and I had just passed him since my lane was moving faster. Insurance had to call it ‘mutual fault’ since it was my word against his.

I should probably quit putting it off again and get a camera in my Tundra

I run an Owl dash cam and am loving it. It also has the advantage of being LTE equipped and sends me notices if someone is messing with my truck. Plugs into the OBD port and is an easy install as well.
