Hello fellow Tundras. I’m planning on a Road Trip from Milwaukee to Yellowstone National Park in mid June 2017. Taking the wife and my three children. This trip could possibly put close to 3,000 miles round trip on my truck. Taking Interstate 90 all the way and stopping in Rapid City for a day or two to go see Mt. Rushmore. Then from there will make my way to Yellowstone National Park. I like to ask a few questions for those who have been there or done the trip. Since there are multiple entry to Yellowstone, which one is the best/easiest to go with? I plan on staying at campsite. How likely is it to get a campsite? Which one is better? Heard it gets filled quick. If unable to get a campsite, are there close by hotel and which city? Any tips on sightseeing, landmarks, things to look for, and recommendation will be much appreciated. Thanks.

If you can get a place at the old faithful hotel you'll like it a lot. It's a huge log cabin hotel. Cruise around the park from there. Also stayed at another hotel in the park. Can't remember the name but it was more of a modern regular hotel. Sort of motel 8ish.
We went over 4th of July. Stayed in Jackson a couple nights too. Great 4th celebration there. Also did some white water rafting just outside of Jackson. Great time.
We didn't camp but saw lots of campgrounds in the park.

    Too many to list
Its funny, we are planning the same trip from Chicago to Mount Rushmore and then Yellowstone. It will most likely be first week of August. This is our first trip to both places so your experience will help my research lol. My accountant wife wants to take her Mercedes R350 Bluetech Diesel to save on gas. I want to take my adventurous gas guzzler Tundra. Hopefully, we will come to an agreement by June. We would like to stay at the near by hotel. How many days are you guys allocating for this whole trip?

There are tons of great camping sites in Yellowstone.

Be smart, my buddy just sent these pics and some videos in WY...

This is from the highway at quite a distance...but you can appreciate the size of this great animal.

One more thing, I would be reserving a spot tomorrow...seriously. Yellowstone Park fills up fast.

West Yellowstone is one of my favorite areas. The fire in the mid-80's is still recovering. That was a nasty one. I remember coming out of my house and going to school. Ash was everywhere.

Going for a whole week from 17 to 25. So nine days. Hopefully this trip doesn't exceed 3,000 miles. I'm in the Statefarm drive safe program where I must stay under 7,500 mile each year to get the discount. Or if I go over, it will reflect insurance bill. My odometer is currently at 1,600. At the end of the trip, I'll have about 2,900 miles left to last until May of April of next year. My truck has a cap so my family will be sleeping in the back of truck. Thanks for the info. I'll look into booking campsite/hotel today asap.

I live in Jackson and have spent a lot of time in Yellowstone. Can't go wrong whichever way you go. I like Indian Creek Campground. First come, get there early in the am, set up and start wandering. One piece of advice. Don't try to see everything in one day. The park is huge. Take your time, relax and no buffalo selfies

    No kidding right?

I have seen people trying to get extreme close up shots of grizzly bear cubs, a photographer get a mudhole stomped in his ass by a Moose, and a few other idiots with the Bison.
