I think the answer is that these two things are related. The hot brakes and vibrations are likely both front brake related. Maybe a frozen caliper piston. I would fix the brakes first and see what happens with the vibes.

$160 is a really damn good price if a full leatherette with vinyl sides. It's actually a good price for just about anything shy of a slip-on cover these days. I'd be lucky to get out for less than $350/seat at my local reputable shop.

 

I may be incorrect but I believe the issue existed prior to brake work iirc. You are correct that the brakes could be a contributing factor now though. If, however, the driveline angles are 5-6° out of proper alignment, it is imperative to correct this to eliminate vibes since 5-6° is a large difference geometrically and is surely playing a part. I'd be very surprised if it wasn't. Even 2° difference can produce unwanted vibes and premature wear and tear on a vehicle.

 

This was also happening before I replaced the pads and rotors last month. There's no shimmy when I apply the brakes now, there was before I replaced the rotors.

I just got the truck back. The tires were out of balance, but not by a whole lot. The vibration is still there. My brakes are still hot and smelling. I'll be bringing the truck into my guy on Thursday morning and we'll verify the driveline angles, check the brakes and go from there.

 

Oh I started installing a Derale trans cooler with electric fan. Last time I went to the dunes trans temp got a little hot. Bothered me so decided to go this route. Will have in line temp switch to kick ok and off and will have override switch running off Auxbeam 8 gang switch system. I work a lot and don’t have much time but after work I put in the time.

@Outbound about that rattling noise. on my 05 tundra the bolts for the heat shield rusted off completely and the heat shields were just dangling there. the way you describe it is exactly the way I saw it on my truck. to fix this I just put some stainless steel bolts on and it fixed it. I don't know about the warm brakes, but as long as they aren't grinding I would drive them a little longer to where them in more.

 

That $160 was for:
pulling out the seat
Stripping it down to the foam
replacing some foam
building up some parts of foam
replacing the metal brackets that run horizontal in the back
replacing the outside fabric thigh bolster

Last picture of my new headlights maybe until I put the halos on a switch so you can actually see the demon eyes. The halos need to be on a switch anyway because they are so bright they will light up the snow above my hood and I can't stand that.

 

2020 toyota 86 radio ordered. and solid offroad poly engine mounts ordered. later this month i'll be talking to @dirtydeeds for the JBA longs tubes and i can finally make use of the new miller welder i got a few months ago and do a custom exhaust i've had planned for 2 years now... then its just interior and this trucks pretty much "complete" for now

OK, I'm making the bold bold prediction that with a 2.5" ballpark lift I'll be able to stuff 265/75R16's in. I know, I know, I should think bigger, but I also wanted the option if I'm dumping real money on E rated tires to use them on the Tacoma if I really wanted to for some reason.

i run ST MAXX and cant say anything bad about them other than yes, they make some noise.. but its not horribly loud.


the wildpeaks i hear great things from and i can say the set i put on the 02 tacoma balanced like a dream, i have not driven the truck on the road due to the rust issue though.


yokos i've had dry rot issues on their truck tires in the past, BFG is just.. well outdated design. cannot comment on the others.





i just like the OEM radios because of the neat shit i can do with them and confuse the fuck out of everyone. LOL

 

Big on the Falken Wildpeak AT3Ws.

We have had the KO2s in that 265/75/16 size before they look great, however the snow, rain, and wet trails we deal with here left us wanting more considering they cost so much. We went to the Wrangle Duratracs which was a huge improvement off road, but wore out allot faster than the K02s. Decided to go with the Cooper ST Maxx next, no complaints they're a great tire, on the heavy side, not the sexy pick, but will do the job great and at the higher priced side too.

When we got the 05 Tundra I decided to give the Falken Wildpeak AT3Ws a shot. Same 5 tire rotation and maintenance routine on the heavier Tundra. E-load worked out great, got about 35K on em with a full winter under them, and stoked to say they are still going strong. Front end maintenance and routine rotations go a long way with getting the full life out of these tires.

I run Goodyear Wrangler Duratracs on all 3 Yota's all in different sizes and I have zero complaints in any type of terrain or weather. Just to throw one more amazing option at this already long list

@daveeasa can’t go wrong with the st Maxx’s. I’ve personally had 2 sets one on xterra, and one on a Tacoma that got totaled. Both sets were north of 45k and we’re gonna easily go another 10-15k. My parents are currently have a set on 04 power stroke also. My wife’s sequoia has the falkens on it, they’re pretty heavy also. I definitely buy them over bfg all-terrains. I’ve hated both sets of BFG’s I’ve had

I ended with general grabber x3’s this go round. Weights about the same. Gotta a good deal on the generals that swayed me that way. The st Maxx’s we’re pushing $300 a tire. My local Offroad shop moves a lot of generals and came in at $238 a tire

 

I am just super stuck in analysis paralysis on tires, grr. And similarly on if I'm going to get any 17's or not, double-grrr.

Cooper ST Maxx vs AT3 is a significant difference? There's a $70 rebate on the AT3's, probably older tech?

I have added front and rear cameras. If I want I can add blind spot that come on with the turn signals. I can add video inputs… I know a lot of aftermarket can do it to. But now your talking 1000 dollar units

 

My Pioneer 4660 with wireless carplay and camera inputs was $627. Granted I'll be well over $1k after I replace the 20 year old door speakers and get some amp and sub love in.

 

A blind spot monitor would be pretty neat actually.

 

That is so cool. I wish I could find a decent blond spot alert with decent reviews that isn't spendy. There are a few no name units, but the reviews seem so so.

 

@Puppypunter has side cameras which come on with his turn signals. It sounds pretty sweet. His cameras are on his roof rack I believe. That's the hard part, finding a mounting location.

I would love to have germes style automation in the Tundra for D and R selection with 15s timeout but that's for down the road. First step will be getting the head unit in, then start hunting for cameras for front and rear, and I probably need to sort out the grille before I have the front dialed.

And then there's the whole matter of no steering wheel buttons on my Tundra.

I could see going with a physical rocker switch for camera input but so few switch spots too...
