What have you done to your 1st gen Tundra today?

When you said, "If it snaps its, its new engine time." Did you mean if the timing belt snaps its new engine time? I thought these were non interference engines? I have the V6 so maybe the V8 isnt non interference?

 

The v8 will die. A v6 will survive a broken belt

 

Hopefully the last time I will take the bumper off and mount it. 3/4" grade 8 washer looks like the winner here. Feel good about how this is sitting. Torqued everything down and should be good to go now.

I’m about to go to the DMV to register the 98 and the 02 Tacoma…. Plus the 66 Mercedes… first time I’ve been able too since my days off line up with the dmv not being open…

 

Before I create a thread, my front driver window rattles when it’s not all the way up, anyone got a solution?

PHM found a fix, I think it was tightening the bolts on the side of the door that hold the window channel.

Getting closer. The rgb demon eyes may end up being worthless with the insanely bright halos. I might have to do a 3 to 2 wire adapter and make the amber halo my running light and blinker.

 

Somehow my Garmin Rep hasnt showed me these yet however I stock Bluetooth switching systems from Southern Audio and was going to do a steering wheel mount for that in my Tacoma. Now i feel like i gotta get the rep to let me play with one of these first.

Got all my wiring done tonight and re-wired everything down the a-pillar. The microphone cable and Scan Gauge cable were already there but I cleaned them up a bit. I added in a dash cam hardwire kit and also the harness for my Gentex 177 mirror. Ended up coming out really nice. I went with an add-a-fuse approach and ran both runs on the same ignition-switched circuit. I ran the temp sensor out of the firewall and zip-tied in next to the front driver's side headlight. Wiring looks very clean and I like being able to delete the cable in the cab for the dash cam that I had prior to the hardwire kit. Everything worked on the first try and I can't tell I did any work in there.

 

I had the sign shop at work make me some stencils and I hit the letters with some aluminum oxide blasting media.

Vinyl wrapped my rear bumper yesterday to complete the chrome delete. It's excellent from 5 feet, pretty darn good up close, save for a few wrinkles underneath. For the cost of material and an hour's time, I'm pretty pleased with the result. Used two 5'x1' tools for a total of $32. The Satin Dark Grey is a good match for Phantom Grey Metallic. I now have my grill, mirror caps, and rear bumper wrapped in this stuff and it's been holding up perfectly, car washes and all.

Also did new LCAs/bushings and oil/ filter. Going for alignment and wheel swap today.

 

I ran the temp prob sensor wire under the firewall rubber boot for the wiring harness but I don’t love that is there a better way? What have you guys done? I don’t want leaks or to trash the sensor wire.

 

There are grommets through the floor under the front seats as well.

This is how I ran the temp probe for my Gentex 177 mirror.

I don't love how the wire goes into the rubber grommet on the firewall but it works for now.

The small things in life that you miss... Also the de-chroming continues. No more nerf bars. Next is that same 3M Satin Gray vinyl wrap on my mirror caps and front grill chrome to give it the color matched look. I think the brush guard is going to go too. I like the cleaner look.

Just sealed these puppies up. Will they seal? Will they function? Will they be flat? We'll all find out on tomorrow's episode of adventures in retroland.

I think you can just cut off the nipple and use that for your wire, no? The part where the arrow is? Looks unused.

Also, part number or link for the sensor? I might do one for mine.

 

Oh. Thanks. I guess I could do that. Will try that today. The sensor came in a kit I got. The seller was "hon_dacura". I suspect I could have sourced the parts for less, but it was nice to get a single kit with all the wiring already done.

 

I been wanting a Gentex mirror. Any pics?

Looks like a killer time. RE: This last pic, hoping to pick up a full set of these rims, near-new take offs from recent model 4R for $25/ea.

Waiting for dude to email or text now. Fingers crossed. It'll fit into my ultimate plan for suspension later.
