315’s or 35x12.50’s on a 1st gen require tubing the firewall and other issues. A 35 pizza cutter would be ideal.

For the same reasons I went with 285/75/18 instead of the typical 35x12.50/18 or 295/70/18; the two biggest advantages are a substantially lower weight (less rotating mass/unsprung weight) and that a tall and skinny tire is able to "tank track" better at decreased off-road pressures. This isn't to say that a wider tire doesn't serve a purpose, there are absolutely situations where wider is better, but as an overall, the skinnier tire will work just as well if not better. Looking back at fairly famous off-road competitions globally, the "pizza cutter" (tall and skinny) has been the go-to choice for many years (this isn't' to jump on the "this is how it's always been done so we keep doing it" bandwagon at all, just saying it works)

Sorry I’ve been a part of the derailed thread. I know more about the tire industry than I want to, but nobody cares, nor do I. Apparently I know nothing a Cooper tires lol. Not to mention the struggles they have had with all their investment in China factories and the tire tariffs.

That said, for those that care, every tire sold in the US will list a Dot number. That gives you date of manufacturer plus it will also identify the plant that made the tire. If you don’t want a China tire, than just ask the tire dealer to inspect the dot code before install, they can even request matching date codes from the distributors.

but what do I know. Back to you Mr E.

Is that supposed to be me?

All I know is that you seemed to reply without reading the comments you quoted, thats all?

It came across to me as somewhat condescending as you were asserting the same things already mentioned by the factory man.

You tire knowledge had nothing to do with my comments at all.

No rub on the factory UCA at least on my truck. It is close but no contact.

Love my Wildpeak AT3s on my V8 4Runner. When my current tires wear out I will put a set on my Tundra.

I almost did the same thing but ended up finding a new set on eBay. Depending on the size, I’d check there before settling for another tire.

Just want to give anyone considering Walmart for tires. Note that Walmart will not provide tire after service/warranty if you do not purchase their optional warranty coverage. While you may save some bucks, you could most likely get your tires price matched or close to it with your local tire shop or authorize online vendor. From experience, Walmart may ship you wrong size tires and won't accept returns once tires are mounted on a wheel.

To save you from future headaches, check with your local/favority tire shop & see if they can get aggressive with pricing against Walmart or Amazon listings.

I second the local tire shop. I did all my "shopping"/deciding here and all the big online retailers, but when I was ready to purchase I went to a highly rated local shop. His price on the Wildpeak was better than anyone else out there...unfortunately they were/are on back stock. I wasn't in a rush since I was waiting on wheels too. But now my wheels are here and I'm sitting on a set of Icon Vector 5s waiting for some 285/75-17 wildpeak AT3ws. I don't "need" tires so it will be okay, just don't love the stock michelins.
