I actually like the redesign, but not having a V8 is a big turnoff for me (even though the V6 will surely have more power and save some $$ at the pump). I'm currently debating on getting a beautiful 1794 edition at the local deal, or waiting until the 2022s come out.

    No.

Bought a 2021 early to replace a perfectly good 2016 just so I could get a new 3rd Gen.

I just about a 2021 at the beginning of the year, the new model is not compelling enough to upgrade.

If I were shopping for a new truck I'd certainly consider it. It would have to run against an F250 Tremor though. Gas mileage is a non-issue for me, they are all poor when towing.

I’d buy one. When they are on the lots I want to drive one before making a final decision and maybe I’ll make it full circle back to a Tundra :) but V6TT with a 10 speed from
Toyota is pretty enticing I just wish the Pro had paddle shifters on the steering wheel.

I am confused on all this distaste for the V6TT… this Raptor smashes and is more fun than my 5.7L Tundra although the V8 sounds mean and aggressive it’s no fun to be loud but slow  also the tuning options for turbos will offer more bang for your buck than NA. Roush offers a tune for the Raptor that also comes with a warranty for the power train (3 year 36k miles) that would be awesome if Toyota offered that though TRD as it’s just a PCM reflash at participating dealers.

Give it couple years true road test, gas mileage, towing to name a few, and to clean up any problems with first year,
Then I may give my v8 for one

MPG is not a big issue. If it get 25mpg compared to current tundra, 19mpg. It’s like $570 a year more in gas one to the other based on 15k miles a year. MSRP, well I don’t see many, if any, dealer taking anything off MSRP, which is a rip off. I actually see the adding a add-on to the MSRP. Which will still be a rip off.

Yup. Not going to be a test dummy. The Hybrid is the one to watch. Electric motor sandwiched between the engine and trans. And the NI-MH battery, cheap old tech for a redesign.

Being charged cutting edge prices for a middle of the road V6 truck with no proven reliability and not even the latest battery tech should make the majority vote no.

IDK why everyone keeps calling the Ni-MH battery tech "old" and "outdated." It's just not true. Toyota has perfected the Ni-MH battery for its hybrids and I would be more skeptical of the lithium variants as there aren't a million Primes out there yet with 300k miles on the original battery pack. I also remember hearing something about Ni-MH being better suited for conventional hybrid cycling duties than the lithium batteries anyway. I think it was my TTEN professor who mentioned something about it.

Regardless, the biggest disappointment for me was the payload and towing numbers and the fact that there is no plug-in variant. If Toyota really wanted to dominate the future truck market, there should have been a Prime variant offered with 50 mile plug in range and 30MPG hybrid after that. We shall see what the future brings, maybe the material shortages hindered that from becoming a reality.

I will seriously consider the CM hybrid with the 6.5’ box when:
    1. There is a legit hybrid option that can run on battery only beyond my neighborhood streets and I can use the system as a generator. I don’t care about the chemical make-up of the battery. Use unicorn blood if needed. Just give me something more functional.
    2. The motor has proven itself reliable in the truck’s real-world environment. Not the test track or in other rigs.
    3. Nothing about the exterior excites me. So unless a trim package does a great job of hiding that gaud-awful front end, I’m waiting for the first refresh.
    So let’s say 5-6 years?

I don't plan to buy a '22 or a '23, but if they turn out to be as reliable as the Gen 1/2/2.5 Tundras, I may consider one in '24 or '25. I typically hold on to my vehicles for 10-15 years, but I like that big screen for some reason. And they might tone down the aggressive grille some after a couple of years.

All this may go out the window though, when my wife gets ready to retire her Highlander. She has already mentioned a few times that she wants a Tundra.

Here is my list if what I like and don't like about the new truck.

    Like:
    That blue looks sweet.
    Composite bed
    Coil Spring rear suspension.
    6.5 foot bed on crewcab

    Dislike:
    Minimal improvement in payload

    Jury still out/unknown:
Fuel tank size-impact by hybrid system
    Feel of the base engine
    Interior

Here is my thing, I know the ride should be much improved, and it will handle better, but the payload difference between the new and my current crewmax is like, 100 pounds. I want to be able to load up my family and dogs and tow a 7k pound camper and not be grotesquely over payload.
As is, Toyota has done nothing to make me feel like the new Tundra is a substantial upgrade from the current. I know they aren't trying to be class leaders, but at least be class competitive.
Compared to the Ram 1500, they are like 600lbs off on payload.

I will wait until I get to see it in person and can build one on the website to see, but my initial impression is one of 'meh' after all the hype and time that has passed. I am not one that expected 400+hp and 500+tq while getting 30mpg and matching Ford payload and towing and Ram interior and ride quality.
I mean, who wouldn't take that? Still, I expected more than what was announced.

I wonder about the weight difference between the two..

I got my 2019 Platinum Crewmax for almost 7k off sticker.
Live in TN, went to Atlanta. The dealership was horrid, but I got a good deal. Just had to fight with them even months after the deal "closed" to get the last $1k back.

Reminds me of the Chris Bangle era at BMW. That was enough to ruin the brand for me. I plan to keep my 2021 for a long time, so hoping the exterior appearance is just a phase.

if i needed a new truck i would consider the 22 pro with the max engine. but i've got my trusty supercharged 08 had since new so don't need a new one hopefully forever. any disposable funds i have goes to fun fast cars.

    Oh really?
I thought that was just people talking, not anything from Toyota, but I haven't followed everything either.

If that is the case, that is just less thrilling. Perhaps they were talking about the hybrid powertrain?

I have an issue understanding why Toyota is so far off Ram on payload.

"Here you go, you can tow 10k pounds. Just don't out anyone or anything in the truck with you."

totally true. The grill beat the world with an ugly stick

Edit: grill and a few other aesthetic things aside, I like the new truck and wouldn't hesitate to buy a 2023 when the first year bugs have been worked out. I just couldn't resist the jibe.

Bought my 2020 Limited in March of 2020. Worked $7025 off msrp (no trade in). That was before the shortage really hit. Lucky to get close to msrp now. Probably be another year or 2
