I figured I would. Or LEDs that are capable of dual function.

So, hypothetically, if someone could make a harness, would you guys be willing to buy bulbs separately? The harness would be designed to work with the VLED Triton V6 bulbs. Just the regular ones (except the 921, which has to be the extreme, but the light output matches the non-extreme 3157, so that would be good)

Well, I mean, I asked @iHacker if it was something he'd be interested in making. He was not and said that a plug and play connector to connector harness would be difficult to make work. He didn't want to be splicing or chopping up stock wiring, which he said would be about the only way to do it.

So, hypothetically, if a functionally plug and play option were to be available, yeah, I'd buy it.

Yeah Meso isn't doing anything with the tails on out trucks. The turn as tail system should be available for pre-orders soon. I check with them every 2 weeks or so.

All I want is the turn as tail. I am not at all electrically inclined (I've been shocked putting in a fluorescent bulb) so that was why I reached out to iHacker. I thought that it'd be a simple harness setup like what he builds for the headlight swaps. I'll see if I can find the link to his response.

Yeah the turn as tail is what I will get as well. They said they were finishing up the adapters and that the entire package will be a plug and play kit.

Using VLEDs, it’s possible. I suppose you could use other bulbs, but it stars to get weird trying to match brightness, and difference in bases and what not. I can make it for VLEDs though. All plug and play.
Forgive my ignorance, but what exactly is “turn as tail”?

    Ok, just did some reading.
You just want both sections (turn and brake) to be lit up when your running lights are one? The top still being turn, and the bottom still being brake? It will require a piece of hardware that isn’t waterproof though, so I’d have to put it inside a water tight enclosure. I have all the stuff to make this work, all plug and play. It would have to be manually set as well. Not as slick as the full VLED set up, but would be cheaper than $345 in bulbs. I would still change your bulbs to LEDs though, as halogens ran at <80% voltage tend to have drastically shortened lives.
It’s late here, but I do think these three options are doable (not cheap, but doable)
    1. Have the lights function close to how they do now, except both red sections are lit by the running lights. Top is still flashing red for turn, bottom still full brightness for brake. White mid-section is reverse
    2. Have more what I think tail as turn is. Both red (top & bottom) would flash with turn signal, and both would on/off ful brightness for brakes. I believe I can do this, but you have to have a 7pin trailer connection for this option.
    3. This one I know is doable. This would have both red sections light up dim with the running lights, full brightness with the brake pressed. The white section lights up white when put into reverse, and blinks amber when the turn signals are on.

    I’ll look further into 1 & 2, but 3 is definitely doable

Option 1 is what "Turn as Tail" functionality would be. It's the turn signal doubling as a second tail light is all. As I understand it, that is what the harness that Meso Customs is working on will do.

I am intrigued by the fact that option 3, which alters the functionality of 2 of the 3 bulbs, is the one that you are most confident it. I know some members are really keen to get amber turn signals. I think @Jim LE 1301 might be one of them?

If you use LED bulbs (at least for the turn signal), I know for a fact I can make that work too :) it doesn’t have to be anything special, just a red LED (it could be white too, but for a red housing you are best to use a red LED). It would be 100% plug and play, and not affect any factory wiring. I have all the male/female plugs for the tundra taillights.
Now, IF you wanted to use the VLED 921 Triton V6’s so all the colors and brightnesses matched, then I could do that without any extra hardware, just wires. You would need a set of 921s ($115 for just the bulbs, you don’t need the kit) and a set of the 3157s (just the basic V6, not the extreme. It will match the brightness of the 921) for $110 for the pair. The reverse lights would be untouched in this set up. But just FYI for anyone interested in option 3, the white/amber switchbacks are $120 a pair in either 5K or 6K. VLED also does 10% off all the time, so that helps cover taxes at least.

    921: https://www.vleds.com/replacement-parts/v6-parts/v6-bulb-921-short-r.html
    3157: https://www.vleds.com/replacement-parts/v6-parts/v6-bulb-r.html
    7440 reverse switchback: https://www.vleds.com/replacement-parts/v6-parts/v6-bulb-wa-5k.html
Or, optional for the reverse is the extreme: https://www.vleds.com/v6-extreme-bulb-wa-5k.html
Or, you can melt the face of those behind you and do the new extremes. They require a controller though, so I guess do the kit: https://www.vleds.com/shop-products/v6-triton/v6-extreme-wa-switchback.html

I need to get my hands on the 921s to verify the pins, so maybe I’ll order a set and see if I can resell them to a brave soul on here that wants option 1 or 3 :fingerscrossed:

Also, forgot to mention, if you convert you turn signal to LES, you may need a load balancing resistor. I would wire it up to accept a VLED resistor just in case. If you didn’t want to use theirs, just cut the head off and you have the wire leads for whatever resistor you want to use.

Whatever this forum told me to do
I put these on my '15 4runner, before I handed it down to my son.

I opted for the super-duper reverse lights, too.

    awesome mod.

I'm in for the Tundra option.
