Firearm storage questions

Hello everyone, I am new to this forum so if this topic has been posed before, please bear with me. I have a 2017 Tundra Crewmax. I am looking to be able to secure firearms in the vehicle when I am out and about.

I have seen the vaults that can be inserted and made part of the center console compartment. I am not a big fan of those being you lose your easy access to the compartment for everything else. I did notice the upcoming under the rear seat storage where you cut into the floor to install it, and while that looks useful, it's not practical from the drivers seat.

What I would like to find is something like an insert for the drivers door compartment. Something that is secure but easy to draw but not noticeable when I open the door to get in or out. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I was looking to install a Bulldog in my center console but she was too big. The smaller one will fit but it's not you g to allow a draw without a bit of manipulation.

Hell I'd, be happy if someone came up up with a lock I could put on the console itself.

It's not Fort Knox and I wouldn't leave anything overnight, but it'll keep your average crankster off your gun while you run in somewhere.

 

I do not understand what your concern is. What do you mean by losing access to the compartment for everything else?
The spring hinge will raise the vault lid without assistance if left unlatched.
With the holster attached to the side, there's adequate room for lots of stuff and no interference with drawing the weapon.

 

What I mean is that in a scenario where seconds count, I want something where I don't have to raise a lid, unlock it if need be to gain access. I would ideally prefer something low and on the drivers side door compartment that will not shift or move around and will be mostly if not completely hidden. I don't want some libtard in Portland (I avoid that area like the plague when possible) going into full freak mode and creating an issue should it be noticed inadvertently. I constantly am going into the center console during my business day and would like it down low where it can't be seen if someone peers into the truck either.

I didn't know this till I read that thread but there is a airbag that deploys under the steering wheel so be careful where you put your gun. As for your concern about people seeing your gun I wouldn't worry to much your in a truck and as long as you have it mounted relatively low someone will have to be peeping in your windows and in that case your probably going to be having other problems because they are probably looking to steal your stuff.

 

Also I couldn't find it the set up on the site but alien gear makes a mount that can be mounted to pretty much anything and adjusted and works with there holster might want to check out there website.

If "seconds count" firearms should be on your person.

Vehicle firearm storage should be used when you enter places where it's not legal or practical to carry on person.

The center lock boxes work well in deterring smash and grab. The Tuffy will allow use of a tray.

If seconds count, either mount right by the radio where your legs are or like @Rocketman says, keep it on your person.

As for storage, why not just get a tethered safe to put under the seat?? Doubt many people walk around with bolt cutters.

 

The door idea seems really good but awkward to reach for unless you're left handed

 

And even worse if you *are* left handed. Because where your hand needs to be to draw the weapon, there's a door panel there.

As suggested earlier, on your person or locked up in a safe.

 

The reason I wanted a spot to be able to grab and go if need be is I am a 6'5" big guy and it's not overly easy to pivot and turn in how well the seat contours to the body. I also have come to notice that the leather in the platinum edition is very easy to scratch or tear through so I didn't want the holster or bottom of the magazine digging in or tearing into the seat back. I already have had to replace some leather panels on the rear seat and the truck is only four months old as of today actually. I think I am going to explore the alien gear holster with the vehicle mount and mount it inside the drivers side door compartment and see how it goes. I will take some pics and post up my thoughts on it after I do it. I was hoping I wouldn't have to do any more drilling in the truck but it is what it is. I am still open to anyone suggestions or thought. Thanks for all the responses thus far. It's appreciated.

 

6'3" and a fairly big guy myself. Door mount wouldn't work for me. My arm doesn't fit between the seat and panel when door is closed (plus I'm not a lefty) so this is where Im planning on putting my gun as soon as I get a mount.

 

Post pictures, I'm interested to see what the solution is!

 

I rotate my IWB holster from 5 o'clock to 2 o'clock after I get in the driver's seat to make sure nothing digs into the leather. Might work for you.

 

Yeah but being a big guy that won't be very comfortable for me. I also get in and out of my truck sometimes like 20 times a day or more.

 

I have seen some where a large magnet is mounted to the front of the seat (down closer to the floor). This allows easy access to pistol because you simply need to reach in between your legs. The firearm is also hidden by the angle of the seat from the passenger and someone looking in the drivers window. Just a thought... very quick access but with the only downside is its not locked up

 

i use electronic lockbox for my glock23,california,so i cant mount a box
i have the Wet Okole with pistol pockets on fron of seat on driver and pass,i keep a taser pulse there for the sh** moments.calif law has nada for pistol help unless u have ccw which is hard
