    Hi All!

I'm new to the forums... new to modding... and new to trucks. LOL. I had a tesla, looked at the 4runner, and somehow landed on a Tundra. Don't ask.

Anyways, I've been all over the net, youtube, forums (and not just these), and I can't find a definitive answer. So maybe if I post on here, I might get more of one.

I currently have the stock 275/55r20 that came on my platinum. I'd LIKE to upgrade my shoes to something more aggressive, without doing any sort of lift or level (at least for now).

I had settled on Fuel Shok 18x9 rims, and was landing on a 285/65r18 wheel (and probably gonna go with a general grabber a/tx)... but I'm worried about rub.

First off... the rim I'm considering is a +1mm offset, cause thats what the guy at the shop suggested for the stance I was looking for. But with the 285s, I'm worried about rubbing. Does anyone have this exact combo they could illuminate me on, as to if I only have to remove 1/both of the mudflaps, or if there's a chop I would need to do (and would prefer not to at this point).

I could go to a +20mm offset, cause if that was the sacrifice I'd need to make to get no rubbing, I would. On the flipside, I could run a 275/70r18 which would give a tiny bit larger height, but wouldn't be as fat, so again, might reduce/remove any rubbing.

so basically, which would have a greater effect... the offset dif of 20, or the tire width?

Or should my pansy ass suck it up and just do the +20 offset with 275, and call it a day?

    any help would be appreciated.

Also.. holy crap. props to anyone and everyone that does modding to your rigs. Just learning about tires is mind-fooking me. I should have started this 20yrs ago...

My SR-5 came with 285x55x20 as a dealer upgrade with Duratrac tires, they worked fine for about 50K and replaced with lots of rubber left. Never had rubbing issues with truck being standard height.

negative offset can cause rubbing issues. 275/70-18s fit on a stock truck no issues, stock rims. The +20 offset will be much better fitting, so less chance for any rubbing or issues. Check the wheel tire forum here, or search in upper right. There are plenty of pics of trucks with 275/70s and stock or aftermarket rims with all sorts of different offsets.

Thanks for everyone's input. I spent some more time researching with different parameters, and after some thought, I'm gonna go with +20. Seems safer, and I still get some poke I'm looking for.

I'll take before and afters once they've been ordered!
