Has anyone lubed the pulley/chain that raises and lowers the spare tire? And if so, what did you use? I removed the spare to do the rear diff breather mod, and now that the spare is off, figured would be a good time to clean and lube moving parts. This one is particular looked like it could use some lubrication to keep it from sticking/rusting. Tried looking for other posts on this topic but didn't find one. Apologies if I just didn't look hard enough. What do y'all recommend for that? Thanks in advance.

Vaseline better, right? Keep water away vs KY.

That reminds me, I need to drop mine to make sure it's not seizing up. A spare that you can't get out from under your truck is pretty useless - I used to drop the one on the Taco when I rotated tires, to keep it free. I'll probably use aerosol Never-seeze in mine. Fluid film would be a good choice too.

Years ago, I needed a torch to cut the chain for my spare off my '83 pickup. Glad I found that before I was way and gone and needed it.

Not as bad here as other area of the country, like @Krezz 's stomping grounds. We have a fairly dry climate and shorter winter than average here. Still get enough salt and sand to cause issues though.

The brine they throw on our roads is terrible for vehicles.

Good topic Jose. Hadn't even considered the possibility of corrosion problems and spare tire function.

Wonder if a spray on graphite lube would work?

Funny, I always test out the spare tire function on new vehicles to see how it works. The other day was the GMC testing. That was fun. I can tell you all one thing, I will be hunting CL for an aluminum wheel. I will say this, GM makes it tough to steal the spare.

Just spit on it a little Jose. Definitely works in a pinch.

Krown rust protection, fluid film, transmission fluid or motor oil will do the trick if do it annually

Many lubricants and penetrating oils stay oily and leave a residue that will collect dust that cakes on and can actually cause failure. Your hi lift jack is an example of that. For the spare lift I would suggest something like chain wax, which I use to put on my dirt bike chains.
