She's all face, bro. I'm still trying to figure out what's going on from the chin down.

I happen to share her viewpoint on how goofy most snorkels look, but the whole time I was listening to her talk like someone with a steel rake up their ass, I couldn't help but ask myself constantly, "What the feck does it matter to you so much what other people do and spend their money on? How shallow is this person that she needs to knock on how another person rolls, just because it doesn't fit her recreational activities or aesthetic? What a twat!"

Look. I get it, honey. You probably love Dodge or Ford or something, along with plenty of others. Coming from a GM family and having dabbled in tons of GM product over the years, I get it, people have their brands. These days I happen to like my truck jammed with features, attractive, and runs for 500k+ miles without a drivetrain rebuild. I don't run around knocking other truck owners because people driving certain types of Dodge Ram pickups have a DUI instance 2.5-3.5x higher than any other vehicle, or there's more Ford pickups on the side of the road than any other brand in my area.

I'm not about to knock her taste, and I'm not the least bit offended by her words. I'm more shocked by what a shallow ass human she is. And don't get me wrong, she looks good in the face, but that girl is an ugly ass person to the point it's a bonerkiller for me.

Aerodynamically that is a low pressure area as the high pressure air spills off the hood/windshield junction and over the side it creates a little vacuum. If you see cars with vents there, that’s why, they’re pulling air out of the engine bay.
So, if you’re trying to remove air from the engine instead of put air in, this is the perfect spot for your intake.

AKA: Kevin says this is a horrible idea.

rainwater is not a problem if you do the cowl induction correct. My wife and I dumped two five gallon buckets of water on the windshield at the same time to see if water got in. Not a drop. I’ll make a longer video one day than that Instagram one I posted earlier.

If you’re super bored and want to see aerodynamics in action, here’s a video

I have not had the cowl open on a tundra yet so you may be right. I only worry because I have seen cowl snorkels suck in water. Ive seen cars parked on too sleep of an incline take in water through the air intake for the A/C too. In my area an airbox facing the back of the engine or piped into the cab seems to be the preferred choice for water/mud. Considering your location and use is almost the exact opposite, the cowl is probably going to be fine.

I'm surprised by the airflow down into the cowl while driving. In my pea-sized brain it doesn't make sense, but I guess that explains the steady breeze through my dash vents now that the foam seals are completely shot. :bananadead:

You know those girls that think selfies with duck lips and talking like a valley girl when you're from Michigan is sexy? And they put on those inappropriately sized bras down in their whatever. I'm like, why? When I think of a sexy girl, I think of someone who's smart and uses a truck to go somewhere rather than be shallow and waste the time to think their opinion matters on a social platform. I'm sorry, but someone had to say it.

@g6t9ed I didn't even like girls who talk like valley girl when I lived in the valley. That, duck lips, the retarded animal face filters and generally mimicking any "infuencers" should be signs to avoid.

I've thought of doing a hybrid snorkel and running the tube up the inner fender well and maybe removing the antenna.( definitely would need to be removed if you have the retractable one) I'm sure if you wanted to you could just poke the cap out but I don't want to cut holes in fenders or firewall.

You could do something like this.

My two cents on this is that if you have cut the inner fender liner at all and the "nozzle"/ intake to your air box is exposed then yeah maybe its worth it. I can't get a pic of it on my truck but I had to cut my inner fender wells to fit my bumper and the intake to the box is exposed. thankfully haven't had any problems so far but I've found the bottom of it covered in water after driving through a hard storm. thankfully there is a drain hole and I do have a bigger oval/conical filter upgrade so during my 10 day camping trip I only had to clean the filter once even though we would drive on dirt roads at least once a day since we were shuttling our mountain bikes. and normally it would be all day or at least half. Like I said in my post above I am looking into a solution but it's not something i can work on these days. too busy.

yeah once you open the cowl you’ll see how the air and water flow. Did you see the Instagram video I posted above? I put the hole at the same height as the one Toyota made for the cabin air. Water drains out to the sides so even if parked facing uphill, rainwater would spill out to the sides instead of into the cab. I used the TRD intake horn shoved through the hole I made so that water couldn’t get up into the airflow. Here’s a pic from inside the cowl that shows the path water would take is about an inch or two below where the air flows. To the right is the intake you’re talking about that lets outside air into the cab through the vent system (especially when the foam is blown out :facepalm:).

I did consider plumbing all the way through to the cab for air from inside, but it would have been crazy loud and this is still my wife’s daily driver. Taking air from behind the engine isn’t a bad idea at all.

Looks good. I did watch some of the video yes. I figured that area was dead air, and not positive pressure (or whatever the terminology would be) like the video shows. Are you using the rest of the TRD intake? I used the factory intake, but IIRC there was only enough room to come out of the side of the airbox where the factory intake horn is. The TRD airbox is much larger you must have put a new tube out the back of it.

yeah I used the TRD air box, but on the 2014+ only the top half of the clamshell is bigger, and you have to pipe the air into the bottom half. I cut into the corner and jammed a dryer vent into it for testing to see if it would work.

    CCB9E2DB-0403-4217-B6E0-305882E93041.jpg

Then cut the hole and plumbed everything through.

    B0A8A584-92B9-4A3B-9ECD-F367876C4813.jpg

Tested it for water tightness with the two five gallon buckets of water dumped on the windshield at the same time (should have seen that clusterfuck of my wife and I balancing on ladders and trying not to fall).

Then I shot it with some Flexseal like a real professional and called it good.

I taped over the stock inlet with gorilla tape and ran it like that for maybe ten thousand miles. About 3,000 of that was off road. Worked like a charm.

    Until.

When I made my cut into the lower air box, I cut part of the support leg that attaches the box to the fender. That weakened the leg which eventually broke and let the air box flop while we were bouncing around off road.

When my buddy popped the hood to look at my invention, the said it looked like a Jiffy Pop had exploded. There was tinfoil in shreds everywhere. :bananadead:

So I have a replacement lower box now and need to just get some silicone elbows and couplers to make it permanent.

Anyone know if the TRD pro box will work with an ARB snorkel?

may have to switch to the other brand...saw some folks that had to cut into their flares to get ARB to fit.
