Rear Hitch Receiver completely rotted

Hey all, I was replacing my rear bumper cover (it was dinged up and i personally cant stand chrome) and when I got it off finally realized where the piles of rust in my driveway have been coming from. Amazingly (it tows fairly regularly) this florida truck with a perfect frame has a bumper/hitch receiver that looks like this! Anyone know a good after market replacement without spending 1100 $ from toyota that will still allow me to have a bumper cap. I have a friend who can weld and knows a few people but he keeps his welder in a kinda pain in the ass to get to spot and i doubt we could weld something thatll fit my bumper cover too...... anyone else had this problem?

wait.. thats a florida truck with a perfect frame? you sure that truck isnt from up north and the frame was replaced?

replacement frames DIDNOT include the hitch..

 

Yea lol it was repoed after a year of ownership and my dad bought it and just recently passed it on to me its been with us for over 160k and 15/16yrs

 

Makes absolutley ZERO sense but i was in a u pull the other day for something or another and saw some of the bumpers and they were all starting the same thing in the same spot

 

$1,100? Don't you just buy a new Curt or DrawTite hitch for $250, bolt it in, and go back to having fun.

As to why its rotted and the frame is not. My inner sherlock holmes says a Florida truck backing down some steep boat ramps submerged the hitch, it filled with salt water and rotted out from the inside. The frame did not suffer as much because the C-channel frame would get washed off in the next rainstorm. But salt water would sit/dry inside the hitch since its pretty much a box.

 

I would suggest considering what @shoe07 did with a very similar rear hitch problem !

Im probably going to go a very similar route! Im either going to mock up that bumper and weld it up myself or grab it off ebay (its still there suprisingly) but more likeley than not ill end up with a welded hitch, even though the curt and drawtite ones are good quality id trust a custom one a bit more haha thanks so much for all that info
