Hood Scoop lights

I see lots of people putting LEDs in the hood bulge or grill, but I decided to do something a little different. The factory installed hood scoop has more holes in the actual hood than are needed for just bolting it down. Two of them were unused, so I just ran wiring through one of them (large circle in the top center) and down to my Switch Pro.

I put a lightbar in my tacoma hood scoop

 

Nice! I think the Tacoma hood scoop accommodates a light bar better than the Tundra. The Tundra scoop is pretty small/thin where I mounted the lights.

I was contemplating an LED strip that I could program to work as amber LED like this, and a swiping light (knight rider style). I'll keep that on the list of things to do when/if I get time.

 

Yeah, the Taco Scoop has a lot more room than the Tundra and 4 Runner.

I like the strip idea. They have all sorts of LED strips out there that can do all sorts of things using a phone app. I like what you have though

 

So the scoop is “functional”….

 

This is a great mod! Did you submit it to the mods forum for consideration?

 

Looks good may have to put this in my to do list

 

What light package or mini bar did you use? Did you craft you own using the existing insert?

I bought 90 degree plastic trim like this:

I cut the plastic trim to roughly the same length as the LED (only a bit longer). I used the heavy duty double-sided foam adhesive to attach the LED to it so there is a piece of the trim extending backward. (picture the side view of the trims "L" shape, and the LED attached to the back of the "L". I then drilled 2 holes on the bottom part of the "L" and used screws to mount them in place on the hood scoop.

It's been in place with no issues for about 3 years.

Did you keep the existing plastic facia? In place and mount the l bracket with lights to it....or did you replace that all together?

the cheesiest thing you can put on your truck. Whether in the grill or anywhere else. Makes it look like you got sold at an offroad shop

 

Next up, fog strip lower grill and two high intensity strips in grill. Rock/ courtesy lights after that.

 

My guy, we literally have a fake scoop on top of our hood anyway. And then some of us have another smaller but just as fake scoop on top of our fake scoop. Let people enjoy things.
