Quick question regarding the installation of the AMP Reseach Powersteps on a 2020 Crewmax. I do not like splicing wires or drilling into my truck. If I go this route, I will get the PNP Harness. My only other concern is mounting the LED’s under the door. The directions want you to drill the pinch weld to run the wire for the light.

Has anyone gotten around drilling the pinch weld and routing the wire another way?

i looked into this recently and the PNP harness doesn't work with the 2020 tundras. you'll have to splice into the wires into your truck to get it to work.

Well that’s a bummer, thought all Tundras were the same starting in 2014.

Electronics are different? Like the ECM?

It looks like the pins they used to connect to the door wiring changed after 2017. If you look on the non plug and play instructions there are different steps for the later models. I wish they updated the docs to include 2020 wiring information. Hopefully there were no changes after 2019. I’d like to get these same steps on my truck eventually.

The wired install doesn’t require anything to be cut or spliced in. You’re just using tap connectors. It’s very simple and the taps provided are pretty solid.

The reason you drill a hole into the pinch weld is to hide the wire for the light.
If you don't mind the wire being seen, then you won't have to drill it.
Can't remember if they came with grommets, if not buy some from Lowes or HD.

Be careful when routing the wires thru the big floor grommet on the driver's side.
The fuel lines run right underneath that grommet on my 2014.

    Just a side note:
The LEDs they supply are sh!t.
Very cheap plastic and dim with crappy tape.

I only put them in temporarily because I knew I'd replace them.
I did replace them with longer, metal, brighter LED bars.
Wish I'd went with a warmer tone to match my puddle and interior lights.
This pic is just the LED bars and my custom puddle lights, no other outside lights.

Beware of installers not properly priming drilled holes at pinch welds. Only spent 2 winters in Boston and look at what happened to one of the drilled holes. Corrosion spread quickly. I've since CLR'd and wire brushed it, then applied primer. It still bugs me that I went to an authorized dealer and installer for AMP Research Powersteps and this still occurred. There are just somethings worth doing yourself. I will say you may have to play with some washers at the motor mounts to get the perfect angle on Powersteps. They may come in contact with body of truck when fully restracted. The shop figured out all of that for me.

When choosing the location to drill the grommet hole for wiring, choose a space in between the spot welds. The welding hardens the metals and makes it harder to drill or impossible for some drill types.
Finding the trip signals can be a bit challenging - the only one I had trouble finding was the drivers door...as usual...
I'd also recommend waiting until the end of the install to mount the boards themselves. Drilling the grommet holes for the LED's, tie wrapping, etc, the boards are in the way.
