Whew, just spent five hours installing the tonneau and bed rug. There's a couple of spots on the bed rug I need to clean up, but think I did pretty well for first time, also not too worried since it'll be covered by the tonneau most of the time.

Very impressed by the quality of both items. Going to add a rack and rooftop tent by summer.

How much of your 5 hours was just for the retrax?

LOL, it was about 50/50. I had to do some cutting on the rug around the LED bed lights and cut around rails because the idea of removing them and installing over rug sounded like too much work since the cover was gonna be on. Hardest part of the retrax was putting the rails on.

Makes sense. I would have cut the rug too. Great setup.

You're gonna love it. I ordered from Real Truck cause my buddy is a rep and got me 50% off. It took a LONG time to ship. I got it 5 weeks after ordering. But, it was worth the wait.

Ya'll are stellar! What height should I get? Goal is to add a rooftop tent and use area under tonneau for camping gear storage, once I arrive on site to then use truck bed as additional sleeping area for kiddos.

I bought my retrax about 6 years ago. They didn't have that rail attachment option back then. That's really cool. I've been brainstorming ways to attach a rack for when I camp, I'd like to free up the bed space by attaching large items to a rack. Maybe I just need a new cover :monocle:

Yeah, it was a huge selling point for me. Very happy with the quality, incredible quality and install instructions. Wasn't cheap but I'm glad I stepped up and spent the $$$.

I was going to suggest that - when I ordered my Retrax PRO XR, the place I ordered it from sent me the plain rails and had to swap them out. I'm pretty sure you can just buy the new XR rails and you'll be fine.

fyi- you can definitely upgrade. On one of the many review videos I watched before purchasing I remember a Retrax Sales Rep. said “if you bought an earlier version and you are saying “dang I should have waited!” No worries! We can ship you the rails to upgrade” good luck!

Yes, came with brackets that slide into bed rails, very easy install once you attach rails.

I was lucky and only paid $1044 with tax. I have a friend who reps a bunch of accessory manufacturers and Retrax is one of them. He got me half off. Without discount would've been $2k plus.

I had a Retrax on my 2005 DC.
I bought an Undercover Flex for my 2014 DC.
I like it, but I should have bought another Retrax...

Loving this tonneau. We had a lot of rain in N Texas, didn't leak one bit, very impressed.

This has been an informative thread that has me thinking. I've spent literally years thinking about the best way to use my truck for both recreational pursuits and cargo hauling. I think a retractable cover like the Retrax along with some carriers would be the best of all worlds for me. For carrying things like a canoe where I need the rack to be cab high I like the Yakima Overhaul HD or the like. However I also need to carry bikes much lower. I currently have a set of old school Yakima Bedrocks with Yakima Lockjaw bike carriers attached which puts the bike just inches above the bed rails. With the Retrax could I use something like the Yakima Landing Pads and Skyline Towers to get that low profile or is there another solution? Thanks.

Okay, I just found the answer myself on the Retrax website where they list low profile Yakima and Rhino-Rack bars that work. Which do folks prefer?
