It’s truly sad...because ALL Americans are gonna pay the price of high fuel. When we virtually had fuel independence.

blame the federal reserve and covid for this one, and the oil companies for their shortsightedness. They let go of 50% of drivers, who are now doing other things, and the federal reserve has lost control, and are forced to keep printing money, and the value of all goods are trending up. 1970 all over again.

    Using your info:
    2019 Tundra $42,900@7%=$3003 tax paid
2022 brand new Tundra ~$50k(probably more)@7%=$3500 tax paid
Total tax paid out of pocket $6503.

Seller bought for 42900 and sold for 47800 so netted ~$4900 but paid $6503 in tax out in 2-3 years doing a truck shuffle.

Maybe come out ahead on the idea you have a new truck, no miles, new tech then take it on the chin at least 2k driving off the lot.

I think you come out ahead by moving it and not jumping back in and using the company vehicle or keeping the truck if you wanna buy another in a year.

But hey you saved for a year on gas, insurance, maintenance, registration etc. that’s cool

Ahh, I see. You're assuming that 42,900 was not his price out the door, and I was assuming it was, mostly because OTD is the only number I care about when buying a vehicle.

If that 42,900 isn't OTD, then yeah aside from the monthly bills saved from not having a truck, it would probably be a bit of a wash.

Last July I bought my brand new 2020 TRD Pro from a family friend who was a desk manager at a Toyota dealership in Portland, OR. At the time, people were telling me how they paid less than msrp for their Pro but I ended up buying mine at full MSRP. I was disappointed after because the sales guy kept telling me the boss (close family friend) would throw in parts for free and even knock a few hundred off the price. Im starting to feel a lot better about paying full msrp now.

The plan is to buy back my old Tundra from my sister and just let her use it when need be. I just can’t justify a nice new truck in the driveway when I can put that money into remodeling the kitchen and paying off the mortgage sooner. I don’t drive it enough to justify something nice. My wife has a newer Outback we use for trips, but even then we can take the company car.

BTW I did put a Retrax bed cover and under seat storage on the vehicle so take 1,800 off the profit for that. It was a nice learning experience but next time I’ll get the cheaper tri-fold cover than the roll up into a box at the front of the bed style.

vroom offered me 42,515 in March with 2k less miles. Not sure if the market has hit the peak yet or not. I built my truck new and without the bedcover or storage it was 49,000. I’ve been watching the dealership’s website to see how much they list it for.
